They can have my APAP when they can pry it from my cold, dead......errrr, wait a minute! Wrong subject for that! LOL Nebbermind!
DrainedDad, believe me, I understand and appreciate your position and your cousin's situation. Both krousseau and goofproof reasonably raised the "legal vs right thing to do" point of view. In the end, the decision is going to have to be yours to make, based on your own, individual thoughts and feelings. I kinda figure since you've put the topic out for public discussion, that you've got a pretty good idea of what you want to do and what you'll end up doing. And it's gonna be the "right thing", whatever that is.
Good luck!

I have had several patients that simply cannot afford a sleep study or a CPAP machine. In Kansas, Medicaid doesn't cover anything sleep apnea related except a tracheostomy. A "legal" way to handle this situation is to have a physician order a two week auto titration study which is free from a DME company. That would give you a setting for your CPAP. Then, the physician can write an order for CPAP and supplies. Then, if the patient can find a CPAP from a friend, or I know noone believes it, but DME companies do have programs for patients who simply cannot afford CPAP. I am sure that with a script in hand most DME companies would set the machine for you. If not, I am sure people here would help, but at least you have an idea for a setting.

[quote="TXKajun"]Only things are, tom, first off, if your cousin has anything go wrong with his health in the next, oh, 30 or 40 years, he's gonna have every right to turn around and blame/sue you for it and second, you just practiced medicine (diagnosing a medical condition and prescribing for your diagnosis as well as filling the prescription) without a license. Other than those 2 little things, yeah, no problems. Right?
Just want to give you something to think about.

This therapy really works! But we ain't docs to be prescribing and filling prescriptions, at least most of us here ain't.
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!
