Resmed Airmini Pressure Setting Impact On Noise or Not?

Post by rdunc » Tue May 23, 2017 1:19 pm

What I am wondering, which no post to date has mentioned, "Does the Air Pressure Setting have an impact on the noise level". What air pressure level do those who have written about noise problems have their machine set on? Or does it matter? Should it be part of the equation? My air pressure is set low at 8.5 which is the perfect sweet spot for me. Wonder if a lower setting would mean less noise or not? I'm fairly new to CPAP treatment and use the Air Sense 10 with humidifier. I travel abroad extensively and had hoped this new machine would be a solution to the travel challenges of Air Sense 10, especially finding distilled water! Thank you to all who graciously share their experiences in these post.

Of course the lower pressure means less noise, less power used, and using a pressure lower than you require, poorer treatment. I don't see a win here, the idea is best treatment... Jim

my resmed was very quiet

i dont think the air pressure will change the noise much
it is mostly motor and fan that is well sound insulated
Do you have the Airmini that he is talking about?

For what it's worth, my pressures are 7.6-12. Maybe that's why it was quieter. Plus I only tried it only briefly during the ramp period.

You are aware that sound waves will travel right down the air path and without a very elaborate muffler the drop on SPL is minimal right? But you are correct that the noise level of these machines is minimal.

I am thinking that the process of designing an ultra-compact machine would be complex; but since insulation
and sound-proofing TAKES UP SPACE, without serving any other function, it would be an easy compromise.

The problem with the AirMini is not the machine it is with the inline moisture and heat exchanger module. It screams it's head off and can keep all in the room awake. Machine is great but pressure settings may be 1 of 2 settings lower than the same settings on a conventional machine.

As a Mechanic, I have never seen a machine that did work, that didn't make more noise as it was required to work harder, but that's in my world.

The humidifier has to be close to your exhale to trap the moisture from your breath, the nature of the beast! That's going to put it's operating noise at your head, Remote Ears needed maybe! Jim

Memory foam earmuffs, rated for industrial noise reduction levels.

At the last mine I worked at, I'd complain about the Locusts singing, so many you could barely talk over them. Now I set here 24/7, and can't get them out of my head. Old Age is Fun! Jim
