Why can't DMEs special order machine of choice?

I get a simple, understandable reply from Crapria. That item does not have an SKU number assigned in our computer system, so I can not place an order for it.
My response, simple, ad the item I want to your system.
My latest request 5 or 6 weeks ago is working its way through their system. A few years ago it took about three months of constant hounding and escalation to a regional manager to get what I Asked for.

Being a computer guy, I am sure the person whose job it is to add such items to the system could complete the task in less than 15 minutes. It apparently takes months to work its way through the approval system to that final guys desk.

This is a common warning that crops up here about doctors and DMEs. I bet there is not a person on this forum who came across such a case. Both the federal Anti-Kickback Law and the federal Stark Law prohibit this. Additionally, Medicare/Medicaid have their own detailed regulations that prohibit it and an enforcement team.

Actually, I have seen people complain about exactly this many times thru the years.

Sadly, sometimes enough money can ensure poor enforcement.
We can sometimes expect the system to operate properly, but when large amounts of undocumented money is involved, not so much.
