Face mask squeak

Post by Missy » Wed Aug 02, 2006 6:09 am

I have a F&P Flexifit HC 431 Full Face mask that has a squeak problem. It is located in the area that allows the pivot action. It's right where it actually attaches to the face mask. It squeaks every time I move to change positions. Anyone know of a remedy?

I use a Flexifit Nasal Mask-it has a sqeak too. I use very small amt of silicone lubricant where it pivots/rotates---put a few dots right at the joint with a toothpick and then rotate the connection several times to distribute the lubricant. When I clean the mask I don't focus a lot on that area and use tepid rinse not a hot rinse like I use on the hoses. I don't know if the rest of the FF is constructed like the nasal mask but mine seems to be easiest to assemble after cleaning if there is just the slightest bit of lubricant/skin oil on it. When I really soap it up and get it squeaky clean--it squeaks--and is fussy to reassemble. My instructions do say not to wash the rigid plastic part. Maybe the mask works best with a little skin oil on it. In spite of most instructions saying not to use moisturizing cleaners I use baby wipes with a moisturizer for the foam insert as it won't seat easily when squeaky clean. I do have insurance that allows me to replace mask parts on the recommended schedule-but haven't noticed any significant deterioration anyway.

It's a 431 thing, mine does it too, I washed it good, rotating the swivel, it helped for a night, them came back.

I worried about lubing it, I think baby oil with a roothpick may be Ok. Some plastics are supposed to self lube, I guess F & P's are as hard as rocks. Jim

I use the nasal FP flexifit 407, which has become my favorite mask. It had the same squeeking noise at the elbow, i got up in the middle of the night and put a very small amount of vasiline in the elbow. That was about 6 months ago and after several washings it still doesn't make the squeeking noise.

Best,
Teri

I was going to suggest a drop of 3-n-One oil but vasiline should also work.

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions on lubing up the old mask. I thought, good Lord, just one more thing to make my night more fun than a barrel full of masks!!
