sleep tremors and other weird symptoms

Post by seahawk » Tue Aug 01, 2006 2:11 am

Hello everyone. You all seem like the most informed source for sleep disorders so please help if you can, I would appreciate it. I have been on the cpap since feb. when I was diagnosed with OSA. I have a remstar plus with cflex and a full faced comfort full respironics mask. My pressure is set at 14.

Leading up to the study, I would jerk myself awake with a pain in the center of my chest. After the first couple weeks of treatment I felt much better, but later the sensation returned and I wake up now just as bad with the mask on. I have had a ct scan of my chest, echocardiogram, standard stress test, nuclear stress test and an abdominal ultrasound. All of which came back normal. My sleep doc prescribed that my pressure be increased to 16.(which I haven't done yet).

My concern now is with my new symptoms. In addition to the weird sensation that has always woke me up, now I wake up with tremors. I'll try to describe them as best I can. As soon as I wake up and also while in a sleep state I feel a strong internal vibration in my head and lower back which last for about a minute. Once I am fully awake they dissapear. I also get sporadic pulsations or twitches throughout my body which happen when awake too but much while lying down. These occur in my chest and back and arms, but most prominently behind both of my knees. It feels like a pulse or like air or pressure is stuck there and will bulge visably three or four times but not constantly.. I haven't been able to find anything online that is related. DVT doesn't seem to fit. I am 26 and in fairly good shape.

Finally, and this is really weird, when I first wake up after a night on cpap, in addition to the tremors when I blink the first few times I can see what looks like the outline of blood vessels. Kind of like when you stare at a computer or tv screen in the dark and then blink away and see the image. I know this all may sound crazy but if anyone can relate I would love to hear from you. I am scheduling a visit to my family doctor and hopefully I can get some neurological tests done as I have only seen a cardiologist and the sleep specialist so far. I know stress makes things worse but its hard not to stress(especially about the tremors) Thats why I'm up writing this at four am. Thanks for any replies.

Hi-

Too much CO2 in your blood stream can cause some of the symptoms you are having. If that is the problem, an increase in your pressure would probably help.

Good luck. Let us know how things go with you.

If it's too much co2, would a hybrid mask help? It seems to vent the co2 out of the mask better than other masks. I have a hybrid and love it. I've had no problems other than tender nares, and now at night 5 that isn't a problem anymore!

Unusual Symptoms

Seahawk, you've got a lot of symptoms going on - maybe not all from the same cause, so all symptoms may not fit one diagnosis. I don't have answers for you, but two questions: 1) In your adventures as Seahawk, do you do much diving? A few of your symptoms are similar to what I've read in instructional articles about diving. 2) Is your sleep mask venting properly? Best wishes. If it's keeping you up at night, maybe your appt. could be expedited by calling the doc's office every morning and ask to take the slot of any cancellations. Please keep us posted.
Kathy
