Purchased "MyPillow" from Costco yesterday. Good?

Post by Physician » Fri Mar 31, 2017 9:16 pm

As a side sleeper, I have used a tempurpedic from Brookstone for the past ten years. It was about $150 and has been fine. Purchased the set of two pillows this week and will try it tonight. Two pillows for $70, but one has to buy two of them. They come in several densities and sizes, not obvious by the packaging.

Got it despite the obnoxious advertising on TV, and despite the owner-speaker alleging that it is THE pillow of the National Sleep Foundation. It does seem that it will be cooler (temperature) and more adjustable than the TP.

The sales person also stated that it's completely washable, enhanced by washing, and is very light. Being light was not a plus in that most people don't lift their pillow repeatedly while sleeping.

The nice thing about Costco is that these can be returned at any time.

Has anyone here preferred a MyPillow? What's good about them? Not good?

I have never been completely happy with a pillow, but I would say I am happier with the "Mypillow" than most I have tried. It seems to support "just right" for a couple weeks then it flattens out and I have to throw it in the dryer on low for 20 minutes and it comes out like new. I don't think you will be disappointed and like you, I purchased at Costco for the same reason

Ouch.... MyPillow retained too much heat.

My dense foam pillow is 4" high. This new "green" MyPillow is 8" high, but is more compressible than the dense foam. The directions call for putting the new pillow in the dryer for 15 minutes before use. Did that two hours ago.

Tried sleeping on MyPillow and the contact side of my face and the pillow was cool. But within five seconds it became uncomfortably warm. So the foam pieces when compressed still retained the heat from the dryer.

So back to the dense foam for tonight, and MyPillow tomorrow.

PS: It didn't work out for me (mostly the lumpy texture, but also not providing the type of support I want). I was curious about how it does in the marketplace.

Nice collection of links. This one alleges that there are much better pillows available, but doesn't list his choices and why. http://sleepopolis.com/pillow-reviews/my-pillow-review/

Don't like the pillow compared to the dense foam pillow

Post by Physician » Sat Apr 01, 2017 10:32 am

I just tried the pillow for one minute. Do NOT like it so far for three reasons

1. Doesn't supply the support preferred.

2. It bunches around my head

3. It is noisy. Too loud in my left ear which contacts the pillow. It's like crunching noises or moving hairs.

Costco: AWESOME!
MyPillow: Not for me; even the cat prefers my buckwheat and foam pillow.

If you google "MyPillow" you'll see that many people aren't happy with this pillow for various reasons.

I've tried many pillows and not one compares to this one:

I guess pillows, like most things are an individual preference. I tried the pillow you mentioned a couple years ago and again when they came out with an improved model and didn't like either. I am more happy than not with the "mypillow", if not I would have returned it to Costco. As for it being hot, I don't get that at all; I cannot stand being hot when I sleep and have never felt any heat from the mypillow, again to each his own.

Last year, my wife got the wild hair to buy a couple of them.
I tried one (firm) for a month and gladly went back to my Chiroflow water-based pillow.
It wasn't horrible, but wasn't great either. I didn't send it back as I like to have a variety for future use or for guests.
Actually, I have a couple of old curved foam pillows which are also a "go to" if need be and is usually my second option.

I also bought a CPAPfit pillow, and like it very much. I am a side-sleeper.

Okay. Finished evaluating the MyPillow. Cannot tolerate it! for at least four reasons. And YES my face does get warm with MyPillow but not with my TP pillow. Have verified the increased pillow surface temp with a digital meter.

The only virtue of this MyPillow is that it's lighter weight, but I don't bench press nor lift my pillow during the night.

When the local store opened, they were giving away travel pillows for free.
Not big enough for every day; but useful in campers and cheap motels.
They had pet pillows on clearance, but the dog refused to use it (bless his dear, departed heart)

Tempurpedic pillow is excellent.

I love my Tempurpedic® pillow. It is absolutely perfect. The "My Pillow" sucked for at least four reasons.

I use a "Knee Pillow". Small and your mask can hang right off the end. Just high enuff to keep my spine straight when side sleeping.
