Hey guys, question for you all. I just received my new CPAP, PR Dream Station. I do not use the humidifier because I like to breath cool air when I sleep. I love everything about it, except how loud my mask is when I use it without the humidifier attachment. I sound like Darth Vader. It's not that big of a deal using it with the humidifier attachment on, I just like how compact it is without it. Is there a setting I need to change when I take off the humidifier? When I received it I was told the machine should automatically adjust itself when the humidifier is not attached.
Here is my info for you guys:
CPAP: PR Dream Station 4-12 cm
Mask: PR Wisp nasal pillow
Mask loud w/o humidifier attachment
Re: Mask loud w/o humidifier attachment
The blower will recognize the humidifier when attached or not attached. No special setting to do when not attached.
But as you have found the humidifier acts like a buffer for mask noise.
You don't have to add heat or even add water to the humidifier if you don't want to. You can turn it to off and use with or without water in the chamber.
But there is not much you can do for the mask noise if the humidifier is not attached except maybe use a hose cozy (and I am not sure that will help) and put the machine as far away from you as you can.
Routing the hose up overhead might cut down on any conducted noise that might be happening if the hose is laying on the mattress. Again...I don't know how much either the hose cozy, or machine placement or the routing overhead would help...just something to try.
I discovered something similar with the new ResMed I got but it was related to water being in the chamber...loud without water and silent with water. Not an issue for me since I need the water anyway.

That's unfortunate. Again, not that big of a deal though. THanks for the quick reply!

Again, I like how compact it is without the humidifier attachment. I like having space on my nightstand. If there's no way to fix it, then I'll just keep the humidifier on.

trade it for an airsense10 autoset, waaaay smaller footprint.Scout4 wrote:Again, I like how compact it is without the humidifier attachment. I like having space on my nightstand. If there's no way to fix it, then I'll just keep the humidifier on.

Re: Mask loud w/o humidifier attachment
Yes, I noticed this too on the DreamStation (the one time I tried). I need the humidifier anyhow, so that is not an issue for me.
BTW, my first two CPAPs (this is #4 in eighteen years), had humidifiers that were not detachable. The first one was the only one on the market with an integrated humidifier on the market at the time. Stand-alone humidifiers with a separate power source and a second hose were the norm at the time!
