cervical collar - has anyone tried these two

I am on a mission to make myself more comfortable at night. Currently, I am using the Amara View but I still pine for the old days when I was able to use nasal masks and nasal pillows instead of a full face mask. My jaw drop is so bad I have to use a chinstrap even with full face masks or my mouth feels like the Sahara Desert regardless of what humidity setting I use. Sadly, the higher the humidity the more my nose stuffs up thus increasing the need to have a full face mask. Any way...I have tried using cervical collars and have found them not very comfortable. I have tried three different brands Last night I stumbled on these and wondered if anybody has tried them. I can't really tell much difference between these and a cervical collar except the color and maybe they are cut a bit different on the sides. Anybody with experience with these? Thanks!

Cervical collars are approximately the same height all the way around. The two collars in your links are short in the back of the neck. If cervical collars caused you discomfort on the back of the neck, you might find one of the collars in your links more comfortable.

Hey, thanks, Chicago Granny, that's what I was sort of thinking. I've read the reviews and they are over the place but so far I haven't seen anyone compare them to actual cervical collars.

Never used anything like those. I currently use ones from CVS that costs about $10 or so.

BTW, were you able to use a collar all night? If so, did it prevent dry mouth?

I think the first one you listed looks the best, I may have to try one

I use a regular 4 inch foam collar from amazon and a boil and bite mouthgrard all night and for me it cures dry mouth and allows a lower pressure and makes a much more comfortable sleep

JDS74, two of the three collars I bought look exactly like the one you have posted. The third one is adjustable under the chin.

ChicagoGranny, I tried each of them several nights in a row and periodically went back to trying them again. Finally, decided the chinstrap was the lesser of two evils in terms of comfort. It worked as well as the a chinstrap as far as dry mouth is concerned. For me it also seems to have something to do with the mask. I have less of it with the F10 than the Amara View, but the View is the more comfortable mask for me. It always seems to be a trade off.

greyghost, I ordered the red one last night. So we shall see. I haven't tried the boil and bite yet. It's on my list of things to try if necessary.

It's a great product. I put a dab on the tip of my tongue and gently work it into my lower gums. Repeat for upper gums. Try not to suck it down before you fall asleep. Most nights, it lasts all night for me.

If you decide to try it, shop around a bit for price. I bought about a year's supply at a good price from drugstore.com, but they don't seem to be carrying it now.

Is it better than Biotene? That didn't last for me. I am willing to try just about any thing!

I liked the Orajel better than Biotene and it seemed to last but the one that lasts the longest for me is Xylimelts. They are little discs that adhere to your gum and slowly melt. I use 2 at night and haven't awakened with dry mouth.

The only adjustable cervical collars are Aspen and Miami J collars. However, they're pretty rigid and most of the adjustments are for angle (they do have some room for vertical adjustments, but not much).

Those hard cervical collars are not what you would want to sleep with every night. Need comfort to promote sleep.

Yes, and they are also not necessary. A good foam collar works well if fitted and worn properly.

What was uncomfortable about them? They can be adjusted loosely - tighten just enough so the chin does not drop down inside the collar.

Also, make sure you don't wear them backwards. I say this because just last week at the grocery store, a guy was wearing a foam cervical collar with the velcro on the front. Backwards.

I use a plain cervical collar but I keep it very loose. It really doesn't need to be tight to work and it is so much more comfortable.
