Extreme dry mouth!

Post by BFG1946 » Sun Mar 05, 2017 3:30 pm

I use a full mask with my Phillips CPAP. The machine also has a humidifier, yet my mouth is extremely dry by morning. Does any one know if there would be any value in also having a room humidifier?

Doubtful but not totally impossible.
What is your humidity setting and are you using a heated hose?

If you add a room humidifier all that does is make it so the machine doesn't have to use as much to get to whatever setting you are using on the humidifier unless maybe you are using up all the water every night and spending a lot of time with the water chamber dry.

Even with a full face mask .... if you are mouth breathing you will get a dry mouth .
You have to stop the mouth breathing ! ... chin strap... cervical collar ... tape... dental mouth guard, or some combination of the above.

I use a boil and bite mouth guard and a cervical collar
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

If you cannot solve this problem by the use of a cervical collar (it also helps with leaks), you may need supplemental humidity from an external humidifier. I did and it solved my dry mouth issue.
Here is how I solved it.

I have Dry Mouth, without mouth breathing, and have used several OTC solutions for that. I used them before bedtime to prevent the dry mouth and they help a lot. I like Orajel for Dry Mouth and now I'm using Xylimelts. I place 2 of those on my gums and wake up without dry mouth.

I use heated hose chin strap, nasal pillows but my dry mouth is so bad. I now burn with dryness through my nose. It's sad that you get all these things going on just trying to get safe sleep. I have both types of apnea for approx 18 yrs and still just want safe sleep..Any suggestions on the dry mouth and/or burning through the nose. Thanks in advance
