Feel free to create another mask article and put a reference to it on the main page as as alternate article, or maybe "Bonjour's Mask Tips", or some such. Don't be discouraged by the comments. Your input clearly has value, it just needs to be expressed in the right form, and you intend to do that. Thank you for putting it together.bonjour wrote:One thing I haven't said is I'm targeting this as a wiki article, but I'm not ready to submit it as such yet. No, no, no. Please don't feel that way. I got no problem at all with what you did here and in fact I plan to use it if you don't mind in my bumps in the road thread which is on my to do list to do a bit of editing and addition to.bonjour wrote:Apparently individuals like it but this is not wanted here. And I have a link to the bumps in the road thread in my first post in the SH and TX tutorial in the announcements section.
Plus I already have the link saved so I can refer newbies to this thread so that I don't have to retype what you have already done here.
Anything that saves me time and finger typing I am all for.
I personally don't care for the Wiki's way of presenting stuff...nor do I do well with the forum search function...but it's all we have.
I liken it to having to use the dictionary to figure out how to spell something. You pretty much have to know where to look to find what you want.
My comments about spoon feeding and such...not directed towards you or what you are trying to do.
It was directed to the people who don't bother to read...like if someone came to this thread of yours and asked a question like
"what are nasal pillow masks"....duh...you already explained it very well but I guarantee you that eventually someone will come to it and ask a question that you already answered and they just didn't bother to read what you said.
Yes...all the information you have provided has been mentioned before in various places but that doesn't make it bad to mention it here.
You put a lot of thought and effort into your work here and I am not going to knock it at all and in fact plan to use it.
Saves me bruising my fingers typing.
You made it easy for me to spoon feed someone. I will use your already prepared meal instead of having to cook my own.

Ok I feel better.
I am not the authority figure for this data, it has been gathered from many sources.
I missed the seal with the tongue at the roof of the mouthy trick. I will be added.
I have a consolidated list of Mask Fitting guides that will show up soon. Just need to develop a page for it.
I ask for your collective knowledge, what else should be included?

Re: Mask Primer
What about collecting in one place tips and tricks to deal with all those fussy conditions: red patches (e.g., Lansinoh), or itchies (e.g., slender crochet hook; wipe face with a dry cloth before putting on mask), or ways to contain long hair/beards so strands don't drift into masks or tangle in headgear, or etc.?bonjour wrote:I ask for your collective knowledge, what else should be included?
As to ease of finding information on the Wiki or even this forum, the screen presentation is nearly as overwhelming as the amount of information to be searched. No wonder newbies cut to the chase and just ask a question in the forum. It takes a long time to scan the screens to find something that might be a link that could lead to an answer. For example, the A-Z Index link on the Wiki home page ["there's a Wiki?! where's that link?"] is in a small font way over somewhere on the righthand side, not the most obvious place to my way of thinking. As Pugsy suggested, we work with what we have and make the best of it. Chastising new users for not knowing their way around is a smug response from apnea patients in the privileged position of being in long-term treatment. Criticism is never a warm welcome to a newcomer and we can do better to help other apnea sufferers get on the road to healthy sleep.
Else, what is the point of coming together here as a community? [a food-for-thought question; I am not inviting tart rejoinders to it]
I am grateful to you, Bonjour and Pugsy, and to others like you who are working to improve the presentation of our collective knowledge base.
Jean

OK, here's a puzzler for the mask nerds here:
I've been using a P10 for at least the last 2 years; and the Smart start on my Airsense 10 for her works fine.
My new F20, even perfectly fitted, will not trigger the ON. What is going on--why?

First thing; yes. Fit perfectly, several breaths taken, machine continues to sit quietly.
Grrrrr.
Smart start still ON.

Re: Mask Primer
CF...what pressure are you starting with?
My guess is that the machine can't quite sense your breathing due to pressure used and the dispersal of the air flow during inhale and exhale with the full face mask.
Might need just a little more air moving...more pressure.

Re: Mask Primer
My range is 9.2 to 13--no ramp.
I can't picture that as too low.
Perhaps I should lower the bottom pressure?

Re: Mask Primer
I would think that 9.2 would give you enough air movement for SmartStart to work well but maybe with the way the mask diffuses the air...maybe it doesn't.chunkyfrog wrote:My range is 9.2 to 13--no ramp.

To test it..you would need to try higher pressure not lower I think...but you could try both.
For some reason with the FFM the machine can't sense you on the other end...why it can't...most likely related to the pressure somehow.
I know with my S9 Adapt and my nasal pillows the smartstart would work fine with the starting part but would never shut itself off like it should if I removed the mask and let it blow.
Made no sense...if it starts automatically then it should stop automatically but it didn't.

Re: Mask Primer
Maybe if the sensitivity could be adjusted, it could work for me.
Sadly, that is not an option, and the pressure is my Goldilocks number.
I guess I'm stuck with the manual power button; not that it makes a lot of difference.
Like you, I already have to manually turn it off. Not a really good feature, IMO.

Re: Mask Primer
You know you could just try a little more pressure (while awake just as an experiment to see)...not suggesting that you use more at night...just try it to see if that's the answer or not. Brief experiment for educational purposes only.chunkyfrog wrote:Maybe if the sensitivity could be adjusted, it could work for me.

perhaps you can volunteer, and get accepted as a wiki editor, and bring the thing up to date on many subjects.bonjour wrote:One thing I haven't said is I'm targeting this as a wiki article, but I'm not ready to submit it as such yet.
