Airsense 10 water tub - Standard vs Cleanable
Airsense 10 water tub - Standard vs Cleanable
What is the physical difference between the standard and cleanable water tub? I don't see a difference in the pictures.
I also don't know which I have. With mine, the top can be removed by carefully unhinging it, and the rubber seal can be pulled out. If that is the standard, I don't know what else can be done to make a more cleanable tank.

Re: Airsense 10 water tub - Standard vs Cleanable
Same as mine - for cleaning a drop it in a bowl of warm water with Steradent tablets (usually 2 - 3) and clean the bits I can't reach easily with a toothbrush (saved for the job!) Also clean the full-face masks and hose using Steradent (break them up and drop them into the hose to clean that).
Never had a problem and if they are okay for teeth then they must be okay for everything else ... still not certain about the mask but I can't see any damage at all after several weeks.
Hope it helps

There are 2 tubs. The Standard tub has white at the top where you put your thumb to pull out. It is supposed to be hand washed. The Dishwasher Safe one has gray at the top. I'm not sure if that is what you saw referred as cleanable. As far as what makes one dishwasher safe and not the other, I don't know.

Re: Airsense 10 water tub - Standard vs Cleanable
I have both. The DME sold me on the non distilled water one for travelling. They are completely identical with the exception of one having "ONLY USE DISTILLED WATER" on the top and the other doesn't. I would have been mad if my insurance didn't cover it.
Re: Airsense 10 water tub - Standard vs Cleanable
The dishwasher safe one was primarily intended for the hospital market where there are heat protocols for cleaning between patients. The standard one is not intended for temperatures above about 120 F. I presume they use different plastics as another poster says they don't see any other difference.
For the S9, there were clearly different plastics used as well as one using aluminum and the dishwasher safe one using stainless steel for the heater plate. However, with the Airsense, both versions have stainless steel. FYI - Lincare does not carry the dishwasher safe one, so if your insurance goes through them, you'll have to buy it out of pocket.

Looks like you are right sewtired. It's really Standard vs Dishwashable. It was easier to tell the difference with the S9 since it has those snapping tabs on the sides.
Re: Airsense 10 water tub - Standard vs Cleanable
You should try to always use distilled water regardless of which one you use. The chamber will stay very clean if you do. I have the S9 with a dishwasher safe cup, but in the 30 months that I have used it, it's never seen the dishwasher. I rarely clean it with anything and it's still crystal clear.Airquotes wrote:I have both. The DME sold me on the non distilled water one for travelling. If you look at the front side of the part that extends beyond the blower unit,
just above the seal, you will see the word "HumidAir". If the letter "C" follows it,
the tub is cleanable--including in a dishwasher.
Top rack is advisable.

Re: Airsense 10 water tub - Standard vs Cleanable
I use the PR system one humidifier and the replaceable water tubs are all dishwasher safe.
I have been using mine 7 months and have never once put it in the dishwasher as it has not been needed.
I use only distilled water and it has never become slimy on the plastic surface or had an odor.
At first I would empty and wash it each day and then I stopped after a week and asked why.
It was not dirty so I stopped and just topped it off everyday with more distilled water as needed.
After 5 months I checked and washed it. once again i found no slimy plastic surfaces and decided it was not really needed.
My really old Goodknight Cpap machine with passover humidifier would always get slimy after a week of use but I used Tap water back then.

Re: Airsense 10 water tub - Standard vs Cleanable
I am not so sure it was the tap water responsible for the slime. I have used both brands...Respironics and ResMed over the years and 99.9% of the time with distilled water (only rare times used tap when distilled was briefly unavailable) and I never got any slime with my Respironics water chamber no matter how long I went between washings (and believe me..it was months) but with my S9 water chamber I will get the slime on the bottom thing at 4 to 6 weeks of topping the chamber off with nothing but distilled water.jtravel wrote:My really old Goodknight Cpap machine with passover humidifier would always get slimy after a week of use but I used Tap water back then.
I don't know why but it just happens with the S9 and I am thinking it has to do with something the bottom of the chamber might be made of but I can't swear to it. More of whatever that material might be it seems to promote that biofilm slime.

Re: Airsense 10 water tub - Standard vs Cleanable
I had read something like that here a year or so ago, so I stopped cleaning mine. Then one day when refilling it, I noticed a red tint to the water and the inside was a bit slimy. I've washed it every week since and haven't had anymore problems. It only takes a minute or so to swirl some detergent/water or vinegar/water around in it then rinse it out.jtravel wrote: At first I would empty and wash it each day and then I stopped after a week and asked why.

alternatively, a quick soak in vinegar will get rid of any buildup.LSAT wrote:You should try to always use distilled water regardless of which one you use. The chamber will stay very clean if you do. my spare s9 that I'd taken to the hospital (three times) had a white coating in the humidifier chamber, I stuck a napkin in there and poured in a tablespoon of vinegar, patted the napkin flat on the bottom and up the sides, so it would wick up the vinegar... left it for a while, and it looks like new now.

Re: Airsense 10 water tub - Standard vs Cleanable
Yes, vinegar works quite nicely. I'm surprised that the hospital didn't use distilled water in your unit. They always do for my brother's. I have a leftover bottle right here and while it says sterile water, the small print says "prepared by distillation". Otherwise all their medical machines would gum up same as our humidifier chambers. Obviously easy to fix, but just curious, I guess.palerider wrote: alternatively, a quick soak in vinegar will get rid of any buildup.

always a vapid comment.SewTired wrote: I'm surprised that the hospital didn't use distilled water in your unit. They always do for my brother's. sometimes, it just wasn't worth the trouble of getting someone to find a bottle of sterile water, so I'd just use tap, and the machine had been used elsewhere, occasionally with tap water, occasionally with distilled, occasionally with filtered.
the point of the comment was that it's easy to clean out water deposits with a little vinegar soak, something that seems to have passed right through your head.

No, you simply edited that part of my comment out in your quote. Please look at the first sentence. Moving on. Since I trouble you so much, please put me on your foe list.palerider wrote: always a vapid comment.
