OT: Colonoscopy Prep
Re: OT: Colonoscopy Prep
since I didn't want to shoot my blood sugar into the stratosphere, I mixed the Miralax with plain electrolyte water (no flavoring or sweetener). It didn't taste bad at all, just a little weird.

Re: OT: Colonoscopy Prep
Just want to add a data point... I've had one colonoscopy and it went fine. Prep was a prescription, forget the name but it was much like Miramax and Gatorade. Had to go through the checkout line with a big plastic jug that was kind of obvious but nobody made any snarky comments. Boy did that stuff work well. You'll poop water and know you're clean inside. Cold with a straw is the way to go. It's not terrible but it's kind of slimy, so if you can swallow fast you can get it over with fast.

Re: OT: Colonoscopy Prep
Managing blood sugar is a bitch with the prep, especially if you are T2 on long lasting insulin alone.
I expect it to be better next time, with prandial insulin helping me to maintain very tight control with an achievable diet.

Janknitz, thanks, that is what I am going to do.
Scottt- Thanks for the tip about the straw.
CF - Thank goodness I don't have type 2.

Re: OT: Colonoscopy Prep
49er, my T2 was troublesome until I got the new "tools"--mealtime insulin and multiple tests a day.
I dropped my A1c from over 8 to 6.1 in 90 days. Like cpap, if I can geek it, I can control it.
I'm totally OK with all the sticks--most are nearly pain-free, and sometimes I don't even feel the prick.

Congratulations for dropping your A1C from 8 to 6.1. You have every right to be proud.
But according to his article, you might want to keep trying to lower it so you can get to what is considered to be normal levels.

Re: OT: Colonoscopy Prep
Being in a high risk group I've had 3 colonoscopies. Each time the prep was 2 rounds of 15 OTC senna tablets taken about 8 hours apart. This worked fine. Can't imagine anything could have emptied be out more than those tablets did.

Do I assume correctly you took a total of 30 pills?jimsp1 wrote:Being in a high risk group I've had 3 colonoscopies. Each time the prep was 2 rounds of 15 OTC senna tablets taken about 8 hours apart. This worked fine. Can't imagine anything could have emptied be out more than those tablets did.
Hmm, even if my assumption is right, I am going to look into this as I definitely prefer taking pills vs. chugging alot of liquid.
Thanks!

Re: OT: Colonoscopy Prep
I have had a couple done and all I can say is the prep is much worse than the procedure and you get through it. Not something to look forward to, but having it over with is something to look forward to. I will try the Milalax and Gatorade next time.49er wrote:Well, I finally scheduled a colonoscopy for next month. Doc prescribed MoviePrep for me to take. But I am concerned I will have alot of trouble with it for various reasons.
I would be grateful if people would share their experiences as to what prep worked best for them. I know no matter which one is used, it is not going to be fun. But obviously, I want to make sure I ask for the best option for me.
I did search the archives and found a few suggestions but would still appreciate input.
Thanks!
49er

Re: OT: Colonoscopy Prep
If you are concerned about "chugging alot of liquid", remember...with the Senna you still will be drinking 10 glasses of 8 oz each vs 64 oz of Gatorade.49er wrote:Thanks LSAT, I greatly appreciate that.LSAT wrote:Colonoscopy prep using Senna49er wrote:Do I assume correctly you took a total of 30 pills?jimsp1 wrote:Being in a high risk group I've had 3 colonoscopies.
