F&P Simplus mask cushion - weird noise from vent holes

I have a new Simplus as of a few days ago...for whatever reason there is a weird whistling noise coming from the diffuser/venting holes, whether at low or high pressure. It's an annoying sound, unlike the simple rush of air going through. I don't remember this mask ever sounding like this.

I've cleaned the mask with a mask wipe, and tried the bristles on a tooth brush, but it hasn't helped. I have the humidifier on a low setting, and the noise starts instantly, so it's not condensation building up in the mask. The mask is also bone dry when I turn it on.

I've tried other nasal masks I have and there is no such noise.

Do I need to do a "deep clean" of the cushion? I was thinking I would soak the cushion in hot soapy water for a few hours and then rinse it off. Any better way?

Mask whistles are usually from an air leak. Check where the hose connects to the mask.

Sounds like there is some junk clogging the vent holes. Use something to poke the junk out - like the stem of a Q-tip if that will fit. Or a tooth pick but it has to fit thru all of the holes.

I took everything apart and put it back together, and unfortunately the noise persists. Going to soak it in hot and soapy water and then try to poke through the vent holes with something. Really weird since I just got the mask...

I tried a new hose and disconnected the humidifier as well. Still the same. It has to be the little diffuser holes for the ventilation. I don't see anything wrong with them though upon examination...although they are tiny.

Try a magnifying glass?

This shouldn't happen on a new mask, but I had an older Simplus cushion that was separating where the silicone cushion meets the hard plastic, it was leaking there and causing an annoying noise. It took me a few tries before I found it -- right where your chin would be and it was just the silicone separating from the hard plastic -- you might check all around to make sure none of the soft stuff isn't separating from the hard plastic rim.

When I was trying out the Simplus mask in the DME there was one that was whistling. The guy helping me said it was defective.

I'm having the same exact issue. I just got my Simplus mask a few days ago. I have only used it twice and it also makes the whistling sound. It's very annoying and hard to sleep. When I tried the one at my DME I didn't hear it. I ordered mine from CPAP.com. So is it just a defective mask then?

My Simplus mask only does a whistling noise during the night when there is a bit of condensation in the exhaust holes.

I read a few posts from searching on Google, and it seems there are a few manufacturer defects regarding the drilling of the venting holes. Of course, I specifically searched for "horror stories" so we have to take that into account. That said, I have owned Simplus masks in the past and there was no such noise.

The fact that I disconnected the S9 humidifier, used a different hose, and made sure the mask and connecting pieces were bone dry, leads me to believe this defect has to be true in my case.

I ordered mine from cpap dot com. I guess I will just order a replacement mask cushion, since I can use the same headgear etc.

I am calling them tonight to let them know. In the meantime, assuming I will have to ship this one back to get a replacement, I am ordering one on Amazon because it has free 2 day shipping w/Prime and I have reward points - making the cost $3 to me .

i called cpap dot com and they are sending me a replacement, and sent me a shipping label to return my current one. took about 2 minutes on the phone. imagine if i had called my dme

The whistling sound you hear is definitely from the vent holes. You can confirm this by simply putting a finger across the vent holes and the noise stops. I find this happens more often as the liner gets old (more than a month)Sometimes blocking with the finger at night stops the whistling for a while. Cleaning holes with straight pin sometimes works, but I usually have to replace the liner monthly. If you get whistling with new liner it is defective and you should request replacement.
