PR, your curmudgeonly approach to things will beat the hell out of this current bout of ill health. You are just too feisty! Best wishes.

Palerider - if you are reading the forum, please get well soon! I can empathize somewhat. I have been in hospital and therapy since Nov. 5, 2016 and finally getting my mobility back some!
Sending good thoughts to you - get well soon!

The last time he logged in was Jan. 10th. I'm praying he puts all of his strength into getting better and when he comes back this thread will be one big welcome back to him.

Fingers and toes crossed, glows, prayers, chants and faith and whatever works, headed your way PaleRider....We'd like to see you healthy again and back in 'fine fighting form'!
Loads of good thoughts for your speedy recovery!

P.S. I had something similar in June with a kidney/sepsis thing and a nephrostomy tube in my side for 2.5 months.
Now I've got a CPAP tube comin' out of my nose. At least I can yank off the CPAP tube any time. Progress, eh?

Hi palerider

I know you probably can't see this, but you can't really see prayers either.

~~~but even invisible, *I* am here, and I am praying for all good things for {{{you}}}
Count me in the numbers of those who miss you.
I just got a note from Palerider. He's outta' the hospital (again). This last visit was in intensive care. I told him about this thread and how everybody's pulling for him. Lets all pray for him!
well, i'm actually a bit surprised.... only one 'not well wishing' post... and over 20 get wells. it does show the kindness of most people, even towards an old crusty grump like myself.
thank you all, I'm doing better, and trying to get back into the swing of things.
having your kidneys fail, but then the fever and pain and stuff going away, (while having cold/flu like symptoms and thinking you're just getting a bit dehydrated while trying to keep food or drink down) then suddenly collapsing, (because my potassium was scary high, they told me) isn't any fun at all...
then having a butcher chop into the side of my neck with totally inadequate numbing... (I'm surprised i didn't bend the bedrails when he started stitching somewhere besides where he numbed, I probably would have if I hadn't been so weak)... surprise emergency dialysis, (such fun). bonus, I was nauseous and told 'em, but nobody really listened.... and I couldn't stop it, and ended up throwing up on the dialysis machine, and ultrasound machine AND the ultrasound tech, all at once.
lots of IVs, dialysis, doctors, nurses, drugs, pain meds, a surgical procedure to implant a 'permacath', (not permanent, just longer term temporary) in my chest instead of my neck, thankfully with adequate local anesthetic, all I felt was the bee swarm of stings as they numbed things... (aside, why does the pain killer hurt so much? nobody in the OR had an answer either, though they'd wondered) and they kicked me out... on the 10th.
my second clinic dialysis, i had a cough and a bit of congestion that came and went, and the idiot there decided I was overloaded with fluid, so they'd take out the maximum they could, 4 liters.... by the end of the session, my BP was around 85/50, and my heartrate was 135+, baaaaack to the ER.
I'd developed afib thanks to the sudden dehydration, and during a routine check, they found the cause of the chest congestion.... I had the flu, probably from the flu shot I got when I went in the first time, and they gave it to me that first night when I was extremely weak.
so, multiple IVs, cardizem for the heart, multiple IV antibiotics to stave off opportunistic infections that might want to move in thanks to flu, tamiflu to keep it from getting worse, etc etc ...
it says something when they wheel you off the elevator on the regular floor and people say "oh, hi!" and call you by name as you're being wheeled down the hall... it says you've been there too much.
luckily, the cardiologist, and nephrologist both agreed the afib was caused by the sudden excess dehydration, and there wasn't reason to pursue medication for it.
amusingly, they treated me like a plague victim, masks and gowns for everybody, in case I coughed on them, then they would be less likely to spread it to other patients. I called one of the charge nurses in to say 'hi' because I recognized her name from last year, and she said "I was in here last night? don't you remember?" and I said "you've changed your hairstyle from last year AND you're wearing a mask!!!" "oh, you have a good point!" we had a good laugh.
I got kicked out again this wednesday, and I'm in the process of switching to another clinic... though I'm afraid it won't happen by this afternoon
to make this relevant to cpaps, both times I went in, I took my spare cpap with me, in the ambulance, (I had it with me at dialysis since sometimes that makes me sleepy, and if I've got the cpap, I can nap) I've worn my cpap and mask in the ER, CCU, the OR and my room, I've never had anybody question it, or me, or ask for any doctors orders, prescription, anything. everybody was just like "oh, ok, sure".
in fact, this last time, I was i the ER, and they were asking me the normal intake questions, and one said "you have sleep apnea, do you use a cpap?" I said "yup, and it's right there in that black bag" to which she replied "awesome".
I was glad I had the 10 foot hose, several times, especially in the OR, where the long cord, and 10 foot hose made it no problem for them to get it plugged in and working so I could breath well, while they were doing the procedure under a local. I did request that nobody fart by the cpap, which got a big laugh... it was a funny crew.
