If you use tap water, I do strongly recommend dumping the remaining water every morning.

In addition to mineral deposits, distilled water helps reduce germ growth in your water as well. Germs can't multiply in 100% pure water. Germs require nutrients that are lacking in distilled water, but may be present in tap water.
