Vicks vapor rub

Post by katzskrtch » Sun Jan 08, 2017 11:10 pm

So I have a cold. I use a nasal pillow. I removed the humidifier cuz I just don't like it. I have had a lot of breathing issues this past yr and don't want to risk gettin pneumonia by putiing the rub inside my nose. I also heard that it can degrade the mask. I just ended up putting a glob on a gauze pad and set it right next to the intake port. Is it ok to breath this in all night or is there a limit to use? I feel like this is a stupid questions but like I said I've had issues and just want to make sure it's safe.

If you have had a "lot" of breathing issues, I would check with your doctor. Normally inhaling Vicke shouldn't hurt.

Note: no one here advocates you actually inhale Vicks--just the fumes.
This is why our moms rubbed it on our chests; so it would warm up and the vapor would float up to our noses.
Even today, the smell of it makes me think of my mother.

Thanks guys. I have had a million tests done and it I may have pulmonary hypertension. But it's been a long yr of test after test and being medicated for things I never had. I hate our hospital and clinic. They medicated me four 3 months for pneumonia and it ended up I never even had it! Put a lot of weight back on from the steroids. Anyway I had heard that when you put the rub inside the nose you could aspirate it and get pneumonia, that's why I brought it up. Because at first I thought it would be the easiest way to use it since I use the nasal pillow without actually getting any on the pillow. But I used it last night with the glob next to the intake port and I think it worked really well. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

If my nose is a bit stuffy I rub some Vicks Vaporub on the outside of my nostrils and it helps.

I can't see how it would degrade the silicon as VV is just petroleum jelly impregnated with menthol

You can buy just the oil in a bottle, a lot cheaper, got a bottle at Wallmart for my ultrasonic mister. I'd prefer using it as close to the nose as possible rather than gumming up the machine or hose.
