New to forum but years with cpap and question

Post by nicpaige » Sun Jan 01, 2017 6:36 pm

Hello and thanks for this venue.
I have used a cpap machine for probably the last 8 years. I am using a Resmed Escape with a Mirage FX nose mask. I like this setup but I seem to get a lot of air leakage where the tube snaps into the mask. Not the mask seal to my face. I have tried new masks and tubes but they all seem to have leakage in that area. Is this normal? I wouldn't think the pressure could be regulated well with such a leak.

Welcome,
All masks have venting. Some more than others. On your mask, I think if you look closely you will see open vent areas on the mask surrounding the area where the connector goes into the mask. If that is where you feel the air that is normal. If you are looking for a mask where you feel less air, the P10 is very gentle and some other masks have diffusers.
Now to know whether you have other leaks is anybody's guess because the Escape doesn't report leaks or any other important data.
If you have had the same machine for 8 years, Medicare or Insurance may cover another one. If you decide to check with them, be sure and stress that you need a machine that monitors leaks.

Due what Okie says and get a data capable machine... insist on it and make sure your machine of choice is written on the prescription.

You didn't say if this is your original CPAP or if you've replaced one at any point in those eight years.

Assuming it's your original CPAP, you're due for a replacement. Almost all but the lowest end CPAP machines now have leak compensation, so unless the leak is bothersome in itself, you can ignore it.

If you live in the U.S., most insurance policies will cover a replacement after five (5) years.

ResMed puts their leak compensation threashold at < or = to 24L/min.

When I started with CPAP I did not realize the need for replacing equipment, so didn't. I later discovered a lot of leakage at the hose connections. They were rubber, which deteriorates & gets less stretchy with time.
