Ideas on selling or getting rid of my old cpap?

Post by Patrick Bateman » Wed Dec 14, 2016 4:14 pm

Hello,

I was on a cpap for about a year, and I ended up having septum surgery which cured my apnea. Now I have a fisher paykel ikon + with only 1 year of use sitting here.

Can anyone share any ideas on where to sell it or maybe even donate it?

How long ago did you have the surgery?
My advice is to keep the machine in case you are not actually "cured". Please keep in mind that over the years, we get quite a few people who claim that their apnea has been "cured".......so, we are suspicious and urge caution to the users.

Hi Den,

I had septum surgery back in May, and I've had 3 sleep tests since then, the most recent just yesterday. Results were excellent, no apneas the whole night for each test. Doctor said I do not have to use a cpap anymore.

Well I hit my deductible for the year, so no, I wasn't 'taken for a ride'.

Of course you were not taken for a ride, and feel sure you and your doctor decided what was best for you. I actually applaud you in triple checking that you no longer have sleep apnea.

That said... many people that had surgery come back a few years later telling us their sleep apnea had returned. Hopefully, yours won't. But it might be a good idea to keep the machine and have another test in a year.

If you still want to sell it, people sell cpap machines all the time on this forum. Most want to see pictures which show total run hours, if from a smoke free home, age of machine, etc. Post pictures of your machine. Most don't buy without seeing several pictures... at least three or four. Hope it all goes well for you.

many people will try and sell used Cpap equipment on Craigs list or even here.
You would need to provide Photos and show the actual blower Hours on the Machine.
The specific model number would also need to be listed.
It would also need to be specified if it was coming from a Smoke and Pet free environment. Very few people want equipment that reeks of odors or has pet dander.
Secondwind Cpap.com is a business that will buy gently used machines. They are looking for machines with under 2000 Blower Hours on them.

You could also Donate your used equipment to a organization like the American Sleep Apnea association and take a possible tax deduction.

This kind of stoopid on behalf of you and your doctor is responsible for running up the national medical and medical insurance costs by trillions of dollars.

Wow, Patrick! Sorry you got slammed by a slammer. Take what works for you and leave the rest. Jtravel had some very good suggestions.
