No. New means new! Reconditioned means nothing unless you know what was done, and the quality of any parts used and the person and the equiptment that was used, it could mean they wiped it off with a dirty diaper, changed the filter and bagged it. Moreorless, it's better than no machine!

Depending on who did the reconditioning and the warranty provided, it can be ALMOST as good as zero hour in open box. My DME (hospital based) does reconditioning but sells for less than zero hour open box. The zero hour usually still has a manufacturer's warranty and the reconditioned one may not. Reconditioning usually involves replacing seals, the foam insides and testing pressures with a manometer among other things. The motor has still been used. That may or may not be a factor since these machines are typically designed to last 5 years and some last many years beyond that. In addition, it might be cheaper for you to just get a machine from someone here and send it in to be reconditioned. There are at least 2 places that do this work - roughly $50-75 plus shipping (about $25?).

I agree with most of the others. Depends on WHO reconditioned it and what was wrong with it to begin with.moreorless wrote:hi is a reconditioned machine just as good as a new one with zero blower hours?
At about one year, my original CPAP developed a "whine" in the motor when changing speeds with C-Flex. I sent it in to the factory (through CPAP.COM) before my warranty expired and when it came back it was quiet once again......and still is 11 1/2 years later.
There's really not much on the insides of these machines......a blower unit and a "mother board" (PCA board) with all the circuitry and probably a few small hoses.
I would have no hesitation to buy one if needed and the price was right.

Re: hi is a reconditioned machine good
i know but the insurance company has rented it. and its rented till jan of 2017. and its paid for.
but its a dreamstation bipap auto. have no means to buy one but its nice. looks brand new. and if
i had not comply with the insurance company i would not be able to use it after 90 days and needed it in
order to complete my surgery.
i love the machine though.
never giving it up i can finally sleep. always had problems since i was a teenager.
best invention and its saved my life.
* i could not sleep one time for over 3 days and it was horrible.
insomnia sucks. falling asleep watching a movie, any little thing. it was terrible.
insomnia is evil.

Re: hi is a reconditioned machine good
I supposedly got a new machine for a 13 month rental to own. Looking at the hidden machine screens found it had more than 120 hours on it. The motors will probably last a long time if the permanent lubrication was properly done at the time of manufacture. If it gets through the first year without noise, you should be lucky. I'm looking to buy a used machine as a spare.

Re: hi is a reconditioned machine good
certified reconditioned by the manufacturer and supplied with a warranty? Or just reconditioned by some mom and pop DME changing out the filter?
Re: hi is a reconditioned machine good
Shopping CPAP machine is like buying car.
The certified preowned car sounds better than used car.
But it does not really increase the car value at all.

Ack, i suspect i got one of those reconditioned ones initially. It smelled HORRIBLE to begin with, the pressure felt 'soft' and i still had episodes on my set pressure. It got disgusting pretty quickly and it wasnt recording data properly. I exchnage dit and was given a brand new one. No problems what so ever and same price.
Re: hi is a reconditioned machine good
If it was reconditioned, it would not smell and the pressure would be correct. My guess is you just received a return - no adjustments were ever made to it.LadyKiki wrote:Ack, i suspect i got one of those reconditioned ones initially.
