That would be my guess.

Perhaps turn up the humidifier by 1.
I don't have a built in adjustable humidifier, just a water chamber inline with the hose. This is the only type my UK hospital offer on the NHS, could this be my problem? If so should I consider buying something privately?

Can you post a picture of your ResMed machine and the humidifier you are using?
It might be part of the problem but we need to know for sure what you are using.

Yes sure, thank you. Machine is ResMed S9, Humidifier is Fisher & Paykel HC325.

Fisher & Paykel HC325.....this appears to be the number for the water chamber that is used with the HC150 or HC100 heated humidifier.
Can you verify which model humidifier?
Or are you using the chamber alone? If no heat is added to the humidifier then the amount of moisture put out is going to be very minimal.

The HC150 heated humidifier is an excellent humidifier
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/fisher ... ifier.html

But the S9 humidifier offers better customization of humidity delivered along with the option of adding the ClimateLine heated hose.
https://www.cpap.com/productpage/resmed ... ntrol.html

The HC150 can be added to the S9 blower but the S9 integrated heated humidifier is usually what is used.

If you aren't heating the water...the humidity delivered is what we call "pass over" humidity and it's going to be a very minimal amount of moisture being added to the air.

I wish I had joined this forum 2 years ago when I was diagnosed! I am starting to feel so much better informed after just a few days here!

Yes, I have just been given the water chamber without a heater. The hospital Technician told me that there is no proven increased benefit from heated humidification! This seems now to be bad advice after reading some of this forum and elsewhere on the internet. I feel a bit cheated actually, if it's because of hospital cut backs I should at least be given the option to purchase additional equipment!

So where do I go from here? I'd like to buy the ResMed humidifier for my S9. Should I discuss this with my Technician first? Do they have to give me a prescription and advise settings?

I went out and bought some mouth gel to try in the meantime, it's a UK version, I don't think you can easily get Orajel over here.

I would check with secondwindcpcp.com. They are a reputable company that sells gently used and sometimes new open box units. I believe they also will ship overseas. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page on this link you will see a humidifier listed that you would only need to add the Climateline hose to get your unit set up.http://www.secondwindcpap.com/Used_CPAP.html
But give them a call and they will tell you what they have and what would be your best deal. You might find you want to buy a new backup unit.

Humidity needs/settings are entirely up to you and no involvement from your medical care team is needed unless you want to use your NHS to supply the humidifier.

Humidity needs or preferences can vary widely and there is no right or wrong setting. There's just whatever works for the individual. Will it help resolve your issues? Don't know but it's worth trying.

I second the vote for checking out secondwindcpap.com as a possible source. You might compare their prices to what you would pay where you live. I would also suggest getting the heated hose. It not only helps prevent condensation in the hose or mask, it helps deliver more consistent humidity at whatever moisture level you end up preferring.

Yeah, didn't surprise me. If they (the NHS) is too cheap to supply real humidifiers they sure won't supply a full data machine.

Just checked, it is an 'Escape' - hadn't realised there were different levels of S9.

So enlighten me, is this one rubbish? do I need a better machine? If I need to invest in something better to improve my quality of life then I will for sure. I'm still learning about all of this so thank you all for your patience and help so far.

there's something like 14 different S9 machines.

the escape is the bargain basement version, perhaps not even worth being sold at PoundWorld.

the main deficiency of the escape is that it records no data to enable you to see if it is working, if your pressure is right, if you're still having events... nothing. plus, it's only single pressure, so it can't adapt to your changing needs throughout the night.

The S9 Escape has EPR.
Luckily, the DME had no clue, so at least I wound up with an Elite.

yes, and can deliver between 4 and 20cm of pressure, but you have no way of knowing whether that EPR is hurting, or helping your therapy effectiveness.

So I tried the mouth gel last night and it seems to be making a difference, so I'll persevere with this for a little while before deciding what to do next, if anything.

I need to discuss equipment with you guys but I guess that's off topic here so I'll start another thread shortly.

Thanks again for your guidance.
