Anyone had this problem?
Hi,
I posted a couple of weeks ago about my ResMed S9 going kaput on me while I was in Italy. I slept10 days without treatment, got home and got a loaner S9 from my provider. Used the same power cord. The new (well, it is used) machine worked one night and then gave up the ghost in the exact same manner as my old machine. It goes through start-up, then pressure builds up and when it reaches my pressure, it shuts itself off and goes through start up again. How could this be? The ONLY common thread I can think of is the power pak (the cord that plugs from machine to outlet) that I am using is the same one I used for my old machine. Is it possible that this is the problem? Has anyone had a similar experience? I am going to see my provider tomorrow, but don't know what will happen now. I may be looking for a used machine until I am again eligible for a replacement from Medicare (January of 2018). The weird thing is that until last night I was doing great without my machine. But this morning, boy do I feel like crap!

Sounds like the power brick in bad... low voltage or intermittent, try your machine with a new power brick.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Re: Anyone had this problem?
Medicare will pay to repair an ailing machine or replace if it costs too much to repair...prior to the official 5 year thing.
So you might give Medicare a call to find out what documentation is needed....talk to Medicare...not the DME though.
But I agree...swap out the power brick/supply first. It might be something as simple as a bad brick.

Power bricks do go bad - its handy to have a spare.

I think it's the power brick too.

You have to ask why this DME did not give you a new/different power supply with this S9? They are responsible for providing you with a loaner as long as yours is out for repair or estimate.ozarkcrone wrote:The ONLY common thread I can think of is the power pak (the cord that plugs from machine to outlet) that I am using is the same one I used for my old machine. why did you use the same power supply, and why didn't you try the new one?ozarkcrone wrote: The new (well, it is used) machine worked one night and then gave up the ghost in the exact same manner as my old machine. and, yes, it sounds like the power supply.

I defer completely to the experience of other posters for troubleshooting this sort of thing.ozarkcrone wrote:. . . pressure builds up and when it reaches my pressure, it shuts itself off . . .
But I also wonder if just maybe a leaky hose could cause this sort of behavior in conjunction with some sort of autostart and autostop feature kicking in at certain pressures and leak rates.
Just a thought. Maybe an illogical, uninformed thought (I am not especially mechanically/electronically inclined), but a thought nonetheless.

Re: Anyone had this problem?
it shouldn't, it would have to be a near complete leak, so virtually no pressure buildup in the mask, for smartstart to turn the machine off... and with a leak that large, it's unlikely there'd be enough flow to trigger another start.jnk... wrote:I defer completely to the experience of other posters for troubleshooting this sort of thing.ozarkcrone wrote:. . . pressure builds up and when it reaches my pressure, it shuts itself off . . .

I've even seen where having a pillow mask on the unit when mask selection is set to full face causes enough back pressure that smartstart won't shut off.
