Not saying you're wrong, but I haven't personally run into or yet heard a specific report of a Mac that doesn't respect the lock slider. I've got at least one reader here that doesn't have the little finger that feels for the slider... so as far as that reader, and the computer it's plugged into, the care is *always* writable. it's one of the small SD card readers, about the size of your finger, where the sd card sticks into the side of it.
