Re: Am I being scamed by doctor?
Greattobeme, the threshhold for Medicare/insurance coverage for a machine is an AHI of 5. I think they fudged mine a little bit to get me to 5 but I'm guessing that it was merely to avoid paperwork (I was qualified under other issues). No fudging necessary if you came up with an AHI of 6. AHI does not cover a host of other issues such as RERAs, but AHI is the number the insurance company/Medicare look at. Thus, AHI (and compliance) are the most important things that the doctor addresses first.
You say you have other concerns. With sleep medicine, it appears that they address things one at a time unless there is clearly another thing going on. For instance, they did not immediately address my issues with restless leg syndrome mostly because it was just an occasional annoyance at the time and now has progressed beyond that.
Finally, get on the phone and call your doctor's office and TELL THEM that you are using your machine 5-6 hours a night and you feel worse than you did before you started. You might not feel better after a week or two, but you certainly shouldn't be feeling worse. Get into the office to address the issue. S/he can't fix something they know nothing about. Have you gone over possible causes with your primary? Things like thyroid, diabetes, anemia can cause symptoms similar to sleep apnea. It's also possible that something that was fine before is no longer fine. My blood sugar went out of whack unexpectedly 10 months after starting cpap. Crap hits the fan when you thought you were past it already.
Nobody here has any data - not from your sleep study, not for your machine, so it makes it pretty much impossible to make suggestions other than basic 'see your doctor'.

First: only if the person asking the question wants to.avi123 wrote:great2beme, if you're going to ask a question then please disclose your age and gender.
Second: then only if it is germane to the issue. (see Sewtired's post preceding this one)
Third: Other than that, refer to "First."

Gender, age, and race may be as private as we choose, but if not stated, it is RUDE to ask.
Avi needs to replace his filter, and we all know which one.
