Machine only says an hour and a half?

Post by riderviv » Wed Oct 26, 2016 9:00 am

My CPAP gives me a report of how I did overnight when I remove it in the a.m. I put it on when I go to bed, sleep more or less through the night (usually wake up once) and I'm still wearing it when I wake in the morning, but the machine then registers that I only used it for an hour or two! Once it said 20 minutes! I rarely sleep more than 7 hours, that's just normal for me. But if I'm wearing the mask all night, why is my machine only registering short periods of use? And yes, I have removed the mask in my sleep on more than one occasion, but this is happening when I appear to be using it all night.

TIA

Are you getting up after 12:00PM? What machine are you using?

Which brand and model?
How have your leak numbers been running (hopefully you have leak numbers to evaluate)?
What time do you normally go to bed and get up?

I go to bed at around 9:00 and get up between 4:00 and 4:30. The machine is a ResMed. Not sure of the model. I'm using a little nose thing, not the full face mask. I don't know if it has leak numbers or not. There are 2 little smiley face indicators for seal and I forget what the other one is for. But they are both smiling (as opposed to neutral or sad) when I get up.

Take a look at the machines on our host site (cpap.com),
What does your machine LOOK like?
Look at any words on the top or front of the machine, sometimes near the knob.
Copy that down. Then tell us.

the REF number off the label is probably an easier thing than trying to decipher whatever they may see.

Is your machine set to the correct time zone? After 12:00 is counted as a new day...your 4 hours after 12noon could be reported as 2 hours if your machine is not set correctly.

You have the wrong machine and humidifier chosen in your profile.
Fix it when you get things sorted out to avoid confusion later.

ResMed machines have the full model name shown clearly on the face of the blower...what are the words (all of them) that you see?

ResMed machines have clocks that you can set..make sure the clock is correct.

And are you saying 9 PM to 4 AM or 9AM to 4 PM? Makes a huge difference in reporting the hours.

ResMed machines start a new reporting "day/night" at 12 PM per the machine clock so sometimes the usage hours appear off because of the noon thing.

Need to confirm leak status and make sure that you aren't having leaks so big the machine doesn't know you are attached to it.

I suggest you get SleepyHead and start there..it will show the hours of use for sure. Maybe the usage is intermittent because of leaks and you are seeing only a segment being reported.

Resmart machines are from 3B Medical; Remstar humidifier will not fit.
We have a problem.

Just because it hasn't been mentioned yet, sometimes the computer board loses its brains. Unplug for an hour and replug back in. Then check your data in the morning. I tried it for just 5 minutes and it wasn't enough. Dunno why.

you'd do better to figure out what machine the person has before dropping rather dubious recommendations.

so far the OP has indicated they have a three brand hybrid.

Sorry. I'm not at home so can't look at it. I'll write down the correct make and model this evening and try again tomorrow. I do like the sound of the time zone thing. Maybe its internal clock got messed up when I recently moved. Come to think of it, it's been giving me these weird time readings since then. I think you may have hit the nail on the head.

Thanks everyone. I'll clarify tomorrow.

If it's really a time zone issue, then some of your hours should be listed on the prior day or the next day.

OK, so I'm using a ResMed AirSense 10 Autoset For Her. The humidifier is integrated within the device. There is no option (I just read through the entire owner's manual) for changing the time zone, etc.

I had it on last night from the time I went to bed, 9:00 PM to the time I got up this morning, 4:30 AM. The device registered that I used it for a little over 2 hours. This is what's confusing me. If I take it off at some point without realizing it, then I must be putting it back on without realizing it too. This seems very unlikely. Also, if the hose gets kinked, it will stop and there will be an error message on the screen. When that has happened, I fix it, and it begins to ramp up again. If something else goes awry during the night, the report will be there on the screen when I wake up, not just a limited amount of usage which is what I'm getting. I appreciate all the responses. I'm thinking I just need to contact the manufacturer at this point.

Thank you again.

Use the software available and see for sure what it is or isn't recording as being used.
SleepyHead works great with it.
https://sleep.tnet.com/equipment

It is possible to remove the mask and put it back on and not remember it and have blanks in the usage...I have done it myself.
It is also possible to have a leak so bad that the machine doesn't know you are on the other end of it.

It is also possible that your machine is having a problem with the recording of data...but use the software to make sure.
You need to learn to use it anyway...

You've got a great machine...it's in the equipment menu...but up under the "A" for AirSense and not under Resmed.
