An unpleasant incident ...

Post by Oltremare » Mon Oct 10, 2016 7:24 am

Yesterday morning when I woke up, washing the humidifier I found inside it a large insect
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nezara_viridula.

I slept all night with this disgusting creature inside the humidifier.
As soon as I put water in the tank to wash it, the insect flew away.
I got very disgusting and I washed everything with water and vinegar (10/1).
Last night I could not sleep. The silicone gasket of the tank had a strong smell of vinegar and before long, I was burning sensation in the nose and throat.
I hope the bad smell of vinegar will go away soon !!!

For the vinegar smell.....take the water chamber out and wash it again and again and again and rinse and rinse and rinse and use water as hot as you can stand it. I hate the smell of vinegar but I do use it for cleaning on a rare occasion but I have to wash and rinse a LOT to get rid of the stink.

For the bug thing....it happens and you aren't the first and won't be the last.

I love bringing out the creepy crawly thread to gross people out. Especially near Halloween.

Though I did look at your stink bug and if it is a big as our stink bugs...I would be more concerned with how did the damn thing get into the house in the first place.
Obviously you need to block any entry points to your cpap equipment.
Do you remove the hose and mask daily?....so that the humidifier is left with the open spot where the hose is?

Once you get past the creepiness....use a towel or something to cover any open entry points to your equipment.
I don't remove my hose daily and just cover up the mask itself..when I think about it and I guess now after seeing the stink bug I will think about it more.

Thanks Pugsy.
I just can't understand how it has come into the house this stinking creature !!!
In all the windows I installed the mosquito nets but these bugs come into the house with us, they cling in our clothes and are carried until into the house.
I am very careful with my equipment. Every day I remove everything and wash mask and humidifier then, I cover everything with a towel and in the evening checking each part carefully.
This time, he really fooled me !!!
It was hidden under the gasket and I really do not understand how! Maybe it was on the towel used to cover the CPAP and has slipped or inside the tube, or inside the CPAP ...
I not really understand !!!
Yuck !!!

Soak removable parts in a solution of baking soda and rinse before reinstalling?

I don't wash everything daily. So not as much of a chance of a bug sneaking into things.
Since I use a nasal pillow mask the bug would have to be smaller than the opening on the nasal pillows and while it wouldn't be impossible for some sort of bug to make its way into things the chances are relatively slim.

Those stink bugs are ugly looking little buggers...I had a bunch of them attack my squash plants in my garden this summer.
Right now the bug of choice is the lady bug...lots of them trying to find a warm spot now that the weather here is turning cooler.
I live out in the country so I have a good many bugs to choose from.
Large bugs don't survive well here in my house...I have a cat that keeps the bug population down. You should see her catch a fly in mid air. Funniest thing.

Ah, ah, ah ...
Even my old dog captured flies, it was very funny.
Now it's gone, it flew over the Rainbow Bridge ...

From today, I'll be as your cat, I have declared war on all the nasty bugs !!!

Oh, I thought you watched our debate last night.
I can't follow the lengthy discussions.
I don't know your language well enough, I don't know idioms, I don't know the ways of saying and at the end I don't understand anything. I to understand your "Duh" I am almost gone mad !!!
Sometimes I want to talk to you, but I fear that I didn't understand well your dialogue therefore, I give up to participate.
But I follow you forever. I adore you, I don't understand those who criticize your forum! Many people don't realize how precious what is said here without too many "straight-talking" (you understand this my ways of saying?).
OK, who knows what I will have written ...

Rinse with water and a little vodka.
Great odor killer.
