Tab on top of Airsense humidifier.

This is kind of embarrassing because I'm sure the answer is an easy search away, but I don't know how to phrase it.

On top of the chamber, there is a white plastic piece that will slide off, but seems to serve no purpose. Thought it might be an alternate fill port, but it doesn't go into chamber.

Your subject line refers to the Airsense humidifier chamber while your equipment line refers to the H5I which fits the S9 line of CPAP machines. These are two different chambers. Could you clarify which one is the correct one? It would also help if you could post an image of the chamber showing the tab you are referencing?

If the tab is rectangular in shape, and has three parallel ridges; it has come UNGLUED.
It is nothing more than a grip for your thumb when removing or installing the tank.
You can glue it back on, or leave it off.
If it were mine, I would take the tank back to the DME, for a good belly laugh and maybe a spare tank.
My tank has a gray tab, but it is the washable tank.

LOL. That it was a thumb grip was my very first thought when I first received the machine, then the glue, or whatever must have given out, causing me to reconsider. It slides in and out with such ease now that I figured it must have some other function.

If I get some ambition up, I may take your advice and rattle the DME with it. Thank you for the input, it really had me scratching my head.

Though I am not certain of what the tank's material is, it may be polystyrene; if so, I would suggest two things:
1) If you do "glue" the tab back in place, make certain you do it sparingly - you don't want to damage the tank with excess adhesive.
2) If you use anything make certain it creates/releases no noxious gases or odors. For example: silicone adhesive often emits a strong "vinegary" (acetic acid) odor; sometimes for a very long time and inhalation can be irritating to nasal passages and lungs. Aquarium adhesive, a variant of silicone adhesive, is significantly less toxic and is considered "food safe."

Aquarium adhesive may require some time to cure.
I would leave the tab off, and ask for a new tank.

You are correct - it does take longer to cure, but the odor disappears quicker. If asking for a new tank the OP would definitely be advised to do it quickly and not try to repair it in any way. Vendors of most products, not just DMEs, are often prone to push back on claims by trying to transfer blame to the consumer.

Good points by all, thank you. The glue thing does scare me a bit, so, I appreciate the affirmation of my fear. I am for sure not going to mess with it. Left a message with DME for a call back, I guess we'll find out their position on replacement. I worst come to worse, I can probably hold out until I am due a new chamber, since this one doesn't seem to be misbehaving in spite of coming unglued. Again, thanks.

If you do hold out, make certain the DME is on the same schedule of replacement as you and that the schedules are in sync and you both understand how the replacement is triggered. In the meantime, if you wanted to try a makeshift solution, try double stick tape to hold the tab in place.
