Anyone willing to help me out?

Post by cpapjack » Thu Jul 20, 2006 7:57 am

Is there anyone out there that is willing to share a copy of ResMed's Autoscan 5.7 Software with a fellow hosehead who is strapped for the funds to purchase a copy of it?

That, my friend, sounds self-righteous.

From someone who encounters this with college students and MP-3 files all the time:

So long as the software is copyrighted (and it doubtless is), giving it away to someone else (or selling it to someone else) is a copyright violation. No doubt about it. Is anyone going to know? Probably not. But consider also installation problems, or any defects or bugs, that come along with the pirated software--no protection or support available.

#1, I'm not a college student. I'm a working husband who has a wife and three young children to support. It's bad enough Dr.'s and Insurance companies rape us of enough of our money already. #2, I work in the computer industry so you don't think I don't know about all of the legality crap and no support or protection available? I'm my own support person and belive me, I'm well protected. All I'm looking for is some kind soul out there who would be willing to help a fellow hosehead out. I bet you if I were to look on your computer I'd find a piece or two of software that's "illegal."

I don't disagree with you. I was merely making a technical point about the sharing of software. I am in the sad position of enforcing the DMCA on my campus, which is why I used the college student example. My other point, about support, was made without knowing anything about you. Hence, it was intended merely as a caution, since after all we are dealing with potentially life-threatening conditions and your health (like mine) was my concern. No need for hard feelings. We're all in this together.

No hard feelings. My apologies if I sounded a too harsh;didn't mean to. Just not having such a great day so far.

Yeah, I understand. Self-righteous expression is one of the more offensive things "Guest" in all his, or her, incarnations seems really enjoy. It is interesting too how "self-righteous" folks hate to be called on it because it is such an ugly form of being. We can all be guilty of it at times but some seem to live there more than others.

Please, let's not let this discussion go down hill. I am SO pleased to have found so many people, not only with the same problem, but who are proactive in dealing with the snags and speed bumps--of which there seem to be plenty. I get the feeling the medical profession is not too involved at this level, and perhaps the equipment suppliers aren't either. I'm still too new at it to know much about help, but there is plenty of solid experience on this list. This seems to be very much a case of taking your health care into your own hands.
