Battery Geek C-222

Post by Balding_Eagle » Mon Sep 26, 2016 4:46 pm

Hello All,

I have been using my Battery Geek C-222 with my Respironics REMstar Plus M Series without humidification for weekend camping trips since 2008 with no problems. I have not been camping in approximately 2 years, but I went this weekend. I used my AirSense 10 for this trip. My battery only lasted 5 hours. Granted I forgot to turn my humidification off. I came home, recharged my battery and tested it with 75W Light Bulb with a Wagan Smart AC 200W inverter and it only lasted 35 minutes.

Is my battery toasted? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks in Advance

a cpap pulls far more power heating up water for the humidifier than it does running by itself, several times as much power.

an inverter pulls even more power because it's not 100% efficient, so it wastes power creating heat.

in other words, try using the battery with your cpap, the way you should, without the humidifier and see how long it lasts.

The battery is 8 y/o and prob didn't have a charge the last 2 yrs so yea its prob done. Compound that with an inverter and I think Resmeds tend to use more power even on DC. Can you take the M series when you go camping?

Yes, I can take the M Series. However, new insurance is monitoring my usage with the AirSense.

Thanks

Good excuse to "camp" a bit inside the grid.

Yeah, you're supposed to drag those batteries out every few months (maybe once a quarter), and re-charge it. I asked the manufacturers about that one when I got the C-222, and that's what they said.

The c-222 started out at 222 Watt-hours. Running a 75W bulb for 35 minutes, figuring 60% efficiency on the inverter, comes out to 72 watt-hours left on the battery, or about a third of the original capacity. About what you might expect from an 8 year old battery.

contact the manufacturer for advice, otherwise at 8 years old you are likely flogging a dead horse.
