can I use hubby's machine to test myself for sleep apnea
this morning I woke up with my usual morning headache and complained, again, to my husband about it.
He thinks I should get tested for sleep apnea because he hears me snoring/stop breathing during the night.
To save money, could I use his machine for a night or two and check sleepyhead reports for my results???
Would this work???
btw, I haven't reported on him in a while, I may post some sleepyhead reports soon, just to touch base. To me, he seems to be doing great. His AHI has never gone over 2.0

just buy a machine and start using it. don't deprive him of his sleep.NormagiJoy wrote:this morning I woke up with my usual morning headache and complained, again, to my husband about it.

with some time, reading, and a data capable cpap yes you sure can. prob best to do it on a weekend or a time when he isn't using it.NormagiJoy wrote:To save money, could I use his machine for a night or two and check sleepyhead reports for my results???

I have done what you are thinking of doing with three of my family members.
2 for sure had OSA and the third I don't think did. The 2 that did...blew it off though and prefer to be in denial.
You can get a good idea what might be going on with using his machine and education on understanding what you see reported. Obviously not the "ideal" but for plain jane run of the mill OSA it's fairly easy to DIY in both diagnosis and treatment.
What will your husband be using while you are trying out his? I had a spare machine when I did my experiments that I could use.

One additional caveat: Since he is using a full face mask (if the profile information on your post is accurate), its fit for you may be problematical and result in data that is inconclusive at best. Since I have not used an FFM for several years, my recollection of the fitting difficulties may be faulty and their fitting tolerances have gotten better. In any case just keep in mind - "one time is not a trend;" you may need several sessions to suggest repeatability.

I'd say a qualified 'yes' if you're the type that can focus on success and embrace all the details, plus a lot of the ideas put forth here at CPAPtalk. Obviously you won't have a prescription so you'll have to get a real sleep study for that. Some sleep doctor's now do titrations over a certain number of nights, right in a person's home while using a conventional CPAP. You can, of course, shop around for various internet deals for the CPAP equipment... might actually be cheaper to do the latter, what with so many rent-to-own programs popping up (or service programs).

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Not really recommended, but it certainly can be done.
Note that there will be no way to distinguish your data from his, so that will confuse his doctor. You would need to track who used it when to separate the data.
Last note, if you're snoring and gasping, you can need to be tested, you may as well skip this test and go directly to a sleep doctor.

Just caught this. Based on your photo, you're male and you report having a husband. Congratulations on finally having your relationship legally acknowledged in the U.S.! I wish both of you he best!

Either that or his neurons are short circuiting so that common sense is unobtainable.palerider wrote:just ignore DH, his brain is stuck in neutral. he probably thinks Pugsy is a deer.
and with Norma and Joy in the ID I assume female so the wife of a cpap user and she has listed her husband's equipment in the profile..which is what we suggest that the spouse of a cpap user do when they come here to the forum. Common sense flew right out the window.
to NormagiJoy....yes...what you want to do can be done and it isn't all that difficult.
Yes, your usage data will be in the machine but that's no big deal to have it mixed in as long as you know what you are looking at is yours.
DMEs and doctors won't really care all that much at this point and with one or 2 nights it won't really mess up the overall data that much anyway.
My main concern is that hubby not have to do without his machine if at all possible.
