What is available out there that I can use on a Mac? I guess I have been very bad about delving into my sleep apnea. Got diagnosed after a sleep study in January of 2015 and got the PR S1 Auto CPAP #550 shortly thereafter. Never even met the MD? The vendor came out and set up the machine based on setting from my sleep study where I had an AHI of 66. I bit the bullet and have slept with the machine and mask on all night every night for the past 20 months. With one or 2 exceptions my AHI has been low since using the machine and twice I have awaken to 0.0 AHI for the night. My 30 day average AHI is 1.0. I see all of you posting all these graphs and charts with all this data and I realize I need to get more involved than just reading my AHI when I wake up in the AM. This site is a goldmine of information and learning. My machine has a card that I just recently pushed in and is 98% empty. Is this the source of all the data your software programs are interpreting? If so, how do I remove the card with out damaging the data. There is so much I need to learn and interpret. I am open to any and all help.
Kind Regards,
Dr. Duke

Re: Software for a PR S1 Auto CPAP #550
Hi drduke49,
The PR S1 550 has RAM memory where it stows all the data. When you put the SD card in, the machine checks that the data on the card is the same as the data in RAM. If not, it writes to and updates the card.
Taking out the card does nothing to the data in the RAM. Putting the card back in does nothing to the data in the RAM. Short of taking the machine apart and pulverising the RAM chips with a ball-peen hammer, your data is safe.
If you want to - if you really, really want to - you can take your machine to Philips and they will wipe the RAM. But they won't wipe the hours of use.
Even if you take your 550 to Philips after 8700 hours of use - as I did - and have them fit a new blower, they still won't zero the hours of use.
Your data is safe.
One more thing. When you plug a memory card into a Mac, the Mac writes a small file-organizing file on to the card. If you let this happen, when you put the card back in the PR S1 550, the firmware on the machine goes WTF? - and then refuses to recognise the card.
The way to stop this happening is: after you take the card out of the machine, but before you put it into your Mac, slide the little 'write-protect' tab to 'protect'.
And, of course, you do the opposite before you put the card back in the PR S1 550.

The comment about the Mac writing to the card and messing it up applies to some ResMed machines. Respironics machines (the 550 is one of them) don't care.

LMAO. If your AHI remains low, your leak level is low and you sleep and feel well, then this is just asking for complications to your life and worry.drduke49 wrote:I see all of you posting all these graphs and charts with all this data and I realize I need to get more involved than just reading my AHI when I wake up in the AM.

To JDS74,
My first machine was a PR S1 551 - and revamped, it's now my back-up. It does care.

you're quite wrong about that, respironics have never cared about other files on the card.rick blaine wrote:(long out of the blue rant about 'safe data'..)

the *only* machines that care are the resmed s9 series.
