When I move in my sleep of the hose doesn't want to be at right angles to my head it put pressure on the joint
Popping it out once
just how would that work, and still maintain unrestricted airflow?
Palerider hit the nail on the head. The elbow is part of the two vent system on this mask. A ball and socket wouldn't work without some venting system in place. Not sure how that could be done.
Just as a note the Swift FX Nano has a ball and socket attachment with an elbow and vent, so it is possible.

The 4th video down on cpap.com shows nicely.

If a ball and socket is made of solid material, the range of motion is only limited by the strength of the material.
When using hollow material, like in a mask, airflow must be maintained, as well as light weight, and a seal.
Thus, the flexibility of such a connection is limited.
The Devillbiss joint looks better than it works.

looks like a gimmick, it's still got an angled tube, and limited range "up and down" it's not going to allow straight out hose connection, for instance, thanks to the bend in the connector. it'll give a little bit more range of motion, but not what the term implies. it's a floppy elbow, basically.

I don't disagree "floppy elbow" is a good description. That limited range is augmented by the cushion it connects to.

Are there any other masks with a ball and socket like you are referring to?

This gives the connection more flexibility than a straight 360 degree swivel.
Of course, this kind of feature is proprietary to a particular maker;
and is not available on other brands of masks.
Sorry I just saw chunkyfrog's response. It has similar range of motion issues to swift fx nano.
