Nausea, Sometimes Extreme- Cause By Sleep Apnea?

Post by JoeFromSD » Wed Sep 14, 2016 10:55 am

I'm a 66 year old male in pretty good health. For the last 10 years I've been having these nausea 'episodes' where I won't fell well for days or sometimes even weeks at a time. Not really sick, I just don't feel well. No energy, can't think straight so I can't get anything done.

Then I get what I call 'attacks' (maybe 5 times a year) where the nausea is so extreme I have to lie down and within 10 minutes I'm actually paralyzed with the nausea. Can't get up, even if the house was on fire. It gradually recedes and after about an hour I'm able to finally get up.

My doctor had me do a sleep test which I sent off this morning.

I'm wondering if sleep apnea could be the cause of these episodes and attacks? Has anyone else had these nausea episodes caused by slep apnea??

Not very likely, Heart issues, Acid Reflex more likely, find a real doctor... Jim

Why on earth have you not had those events investigated... why just the sleep test?

No, I don't see any connection at all to apnea, possibly an inner ear problem (tho' your symptoms sound extreme) but in any case you need an internist, gastroenterologist, and keep the sleep stuff separate.

Have you kept track of what you might have eaten or drunk prior to the episodes? There are so many possibilities and I hope you're not trying to diagnose yourself online.

If during your nausea you also "saw" that the room ceiling was moving then I would take a wild guess that you suffer from Positional Vertigo (BPPV), it can be benign or cancerous (in the inner ears). I would go see an ENT doc.

See more about it:

Having Sleep Apnea, Peripheral Neuropathy, Tinnitus, BPPV, etc., all indicate that the Vestibular system went kaput.

Avi! That's garbage! Vertigo and cancer have nothing to do with each other at all, and taking a wild guess that he has vertigo is nonsense - based on nothing.

I think you might also consider being checked out for gastroesophageal reflux. It can go hand in hand with apnea, so the presence or absence of apnea does not rule it in or out.
