I have ordered some from Amazon, just want to try it once to see what it's like . I currently am using, 95% of the time, a cervical collar and it works great keeping my big mouth closed. I occasionally get large leaks but discovered last night that my P10 was leaking past the bottom edge on to my upper lip. so, I pulled the strap that normally sits on top of my heard down a bit toward the lower strap and that cured that leak. Haven't looked at SH yet to see how long it worked.

I am like Pugsy in that I like to check out other ways to make my therapy better. Now. after 10 years or so on APAP/CPAP, I can't go to sleep with out my P10 in place.

Cheers

I hear you on that. I came up with idea of using these hairbands to help another who was using tape but the tape was too irritating to the skin. To check how they might work, I tried them on myself experimentally. They worked so well for me that I have incorporated them into my regular gear. I don't think the principle is new, there was some guy a long while back that sold a chin-mouth strap combo that kind of worked the same way. I just happened to have these particular style hairbands on hand and they seem perfect (with a little modification) for the job.

Let us know how they work for you.

first time i heard about something similar was the suggestion to use a generic athletic sweatband over the mouth, I'd figured on something like the terry cloth ones you see..

a 2" ace bandage would probably work too, and be customizable for length and tightness, with a safety pin or a bit of stitching.

Right, I think a method for dealing with mouth leaks should restrict and quiet expiratory mouth flow, but not prevent it completely (chipmunk cheeks and respiratory dead space), while discouraging mouth inhale, yet at the same time, be comfortable, easy to apply and not create additional problems - Pretty tall order and definitely removes tape from the possible contenders, at least IMHO.

it's always been the tape removal that's been my biggest problem

though maybe it wouldn't be as bad on the lips as when it's stuck to other parts of my body.

I had so much tape residue on me after getting out of the hospital this last time... *shudder*
