There just isn't enough information, but given the holiday weekend, my guess is like others - this is just a stop gap until you have more tests done, perhaps a sleep study. With the holiday weekend, your chances of getting tested are slim to none for the next week. Oxygen can reduce apneas and hypopneas some so that will help your overall oxygenation. BUT, it is not the solution for sleep apnea.

Aha, so you have previously been prescribed cpap, but did not follow through.
It sounds like your doctor is trying to find something you WILL use, and hope it helps.
Sadly, cpap is likely STILL the best answer.
I hope you are ready to accept whatever works, and follow through THIS time.

me thinks it is easier to sleep with a cpap than with something in your mouth
me thinks if you had used the cpap when issued you would not have afib now
me thinks the doc knew this patient and was doing his level best to avoid being sued by the family

methinks is most correct of all the responses in my mind. Supplemental oxygen will be of no benefit to you. You and many others here already knew that. No ventilation= no oxygenation. Unlikely to be used as a stop gap treatment. As a side note, I have overheard a physician telling a patient, ''Use your CPAP or you will die!" There is certainly a relationship between untreated OSA and a fib. Perhaps you should get that sleep study and get back on PAP therapy.

Still trying to sort this out, but I think I've come to the conclusion that the oxygen was ordered by mistake... As I said the in home pulse oximetry test was ordered by my cardiologist. I had them send me a copy of the report and it clearly says "It appears this patient qualifies for nocturnal oxygen per Medicare guidelines." (this is on the report from the company provided the testing device). The cardiologist sent the report to my primary care physician and he, without questioning it, ordered the oxygen... So anyway, I have an appointment now with my PCP to determine next steps. Trying to decide whether or not to keep the oxygen. Considering self referral to a sleep specialist as I'm having doubts that neither my PCP nor cardiologist knows what to do with a sleep apnea patient. Also have doubts that the cardiologist ordered the right test. Last time I did the in home sleep apnea test it was a little more elaborate than just wearing a pulse oximeter on my finger. Frustrated and wonder if I need to fire all my doctors.

Just get the sleep study, don't complicate or overthink it now but do what you need to and get it overwith.

a pulseox is not a sleep test. all it shows is your oxygen levels drop, not why.
