My skin was getting sore from the use of the paper tape. I tape it nightly to avoid the mouthbreathing, and am allergic to any of the tapes except the paper and the clear. I'm hoping to avoid problems with these tapes, so irritation may make me more vulnerable to developing a sensitivity.
I remembered a co-worker who had to wear an eyepatch for Bell's palsy. Her mother was a nurse and had her put milk of magnesia onto the skin, allow it to dry, and then stick the eyepatch on. This helped avoid some of the sensitive skin, while still keeping the adhesion of the tape.
Last night, I researched it to be sure I was right. Then I tried it, and it DID keep the tape from irritating my skin. There was no problem keeping the tape adhered well to the skin, either.
I tried to search for "milk of magnesia" to see if this had been suggested before, but I was only getting current postings. Maybe I don't know how to search anymore... but I don't think so....
Any more sensitive skin solutions out there?

birdshell, I am totally with you on the skin irritation.
I was using a full face mask for the last year and four months because I knew I was a mouth breather, but I never felt rested and still had daytime sleepiness. The third night with my Aura/Headrest, I FINALLY felt rested! Hallelujah! Of course, that coincided with some nice scabbing on my chin from irritation due to removal of the tape. So, i tried Poligrip strips, and by the time I woke up, the strip had totally released and my mouth (admittedly a big one ) was wide open. So I'm going to try it again a different way tonight, and if that doesn't work, I'll be trying different tape brands (I'm sure a good "search forum" will come up with a bunch of them) and then looking for other options myself. Milk of magnesia? My first reaction was "That's so weird!", and then "Hello! You *tape your mouth shut* every night. How much weirder is it than that?!" LOL
Good luck, and thanks for the tip!

I too have sensative skin and I have had great luck with tegaderm. You can find it in most drug/grocery stores. I use the 2 3/8 X 2 3/4 and cut it in 1/2 on the long end. I haven't had any break out issues with this tape.
Yes, it can be a bit expensive to purhcase them at the store, but I googled tegaderm and found an internet company that sells cheaper.
I hope that you find something that works for you!

Tegaderm
Thanks, Teri!
That is a great concept. I've had Tegaderm over my IV's, I think. It is so light and may be a really great solution for me. Thanks--I'll let you know when I've had a chance to try it.

Thanks--I hadn't ever heard of this one.
