air-in-the-mouth questions
air-in-the-mouth questions
I am using nasal pillows and get the occasional puff or bubble of air in the mouth, which doesn't escape, because my mouth is held shut by a chinstrap and my tongue is on the roof of my mouth (mostly).
Can/do these sudden puffs affect number of events/hour? Are they a sign of breath stoppage?
Are they just to be tolerated and gotten used to or a sign that a full face mask is needed, even though the air is not getting out of the mouth?

Re: air-in-the-mouth questions
I had these bubbles all throughout my sleep test. I have sense learned better tongue/seal control. It just took time. You will need to address the bubbles because they are annoying.
A half second puff of air escape to keep them cheeks from puffing up like a chipmunk will be just fine.
Now if your lips leaked too... so much that the XPAP couldn't keep up the pressure. I that would show up in Sleepyhead software, chapped lips, dry mouth, ect. Large leaks like that need to be addressed.

Why have you not specified the exact mask that you're using?joem18b wrote:I am using nasal pillows and get the occasional puff or bubble of air in the mouth, which doesn't escape, because my mouth is held shut by a chinstrap and my tongue is on the roof of my mouth (mostly).

Why don't you show him where the equipment profile is?avi123 wrote:Why have you not specified the exact mask that you're using?

because that would be avi doing something useful and that would likely cause the world to stop spinning, or something worse.ChicagoGranny wrote:Why don't you show him where the equipment profile is?avi123 wrote:Why have you not specified the exact mask that you're using?

Re: air-in-the-mouth questions
The OP said "NASAL PILLOWS" .
The "aerodynamics" related to this type of mask does not vary from one brand to another.
Even the tap-pap is unable to help with lip and tongue issues. No clue another would be better.
I know. I tried.
By the way, my tongue learned to block airflow into the mouth, by surprise.

Yes, edit the items in the profile to add your equipment and things you want to share about yourself (edit equipment, edit profile). You (joem18b) are a member of the forum and on the list, so to speak.joem18b wrote:i see the profile list, but not me on it. when i click on a profile, i get an error.

Re: air-in-the-mouth questions
This air leaking from the nasal passage at the back of the throat into the oral cavity due to a little higher pressure from the CPAP. It is not a sign of stoppage and likely will not affect your events per hour in any significant way. However, if they wake you and that causes a change in breathing, the machine could register that as an event. If they are not bothersome and are tolerable then you need not do anything. If they disturb your sleep, then some action should be taken,joem18b wrote:I am using nasal pillows and get the occasional puff or bubble of air in the mouth, which doesn't escape, because my mouth is held shut by a chinstrap and my tongue is on the roof of my mouth (mostly).

Thanks!

It's spelled "Granny" or possessive "Granny's", boys.

Re: air-in-the-mouth questions
No, the bubbles are just air leaking through your mouth. That wouldn't affect the episodes but you might be swallowing some air...do you also feel gassy?
