How do I disconnect the mask and tube?

Post by GuestStar » Tue Aug 23, 2016 9:12 am

I feel like an idiot and I'm afraid of damaging something by tugging at inseparable things. I know how to take the nasal pillows off and a snap for the headgear... but isn't there still more tubing that is part of the mask? How do I get the whole thing off? I am wanting to clean the tube.

You don't need to clean the hose(s) because there's no way it gets dirty. Room air that you breathe all day long is filtered, then sent through the machine into the hose and out your mouth or CO2 vent holes. And it doesn't go backwards. There are many of us who've never cleaned the hoses in actual decades.

However, if you look on Cpap.com's pg of your specific mask, then at 'Replacement parts' up on the right and examine them carefully, you should have a better idea of which are which and how they fit together. Asking in your note whether there IS another hose is a bit strange... either you have it in front of you or you don't.

The end of the short hose simply slides into the end of the long hose. Grasp the small hose near where it mates with the long hose. Wiggle the small hose while pulling on the hoses. They should pull apart. If you want to clean the long hose, it simply slides on to the machine. Unheated hoses have the same kind of connector on each end. Simply wiggle it slightly while pulling on it. Heated hoses have different connectors on each end. See your owners manual for removing this type of hose. You will see all kinds of comments here on whether or not you need to clean the hose. This is very subjective and everybody has their own preference on how often to clean the hose if at all. Some clean it weekly, some less often, ( I clean mine once a month) and others that never clean it. How often you clean it is strictly up to you.

Shouldn't that be "liberally up to you"?

Carefully, and calmly. I destroyed two different hoses when first starting out.
Fumbling around in the dark, I grabbed the HOSE instead of the coupling.
Twisted right apart--in the WRONG PLACE.
Could have been worse--the bullfrog might have been injured.

the ends of the long hose is rubbery and grips the hard plastic of the mask connector, you have to bend the connector back and forth to get the big hose to let go, it doesn't take much force when wiggled out that way.
