Oily Nose 24/7 After Cpap

Post by pmsea » Fri Jul 29, 2016 1:59 am

Hi yeah ever since using the cpap mask I've had an oily nose all day long. Imagine a normal nose and you can scratch it or wear glasses whatever. Now I wake up and take off the mask and every nose pore is glistening. So I wipe it off clean my face etc, clean the mask. But I've found my nose not only feels extremely soft and weird all day but it also is oily and after wiping goes back to that glisteny stage. I have to wipe it all day long it seems. I've never had this problem before. My glasses slip off with too much ease. I have to wash my hands if I simply scratch an itch on my nose because I get oil on my hand instantly. This shouldn't be a thing but somehow it is. Is it just the mask causing this and how and why would it last all day? What do I do about this?

Use Witch hazel to clean your nose, works like a charm...

Use a facial astringent before bed.

Don't ladies (not that you're necessarily a female) sometimes 'powder' their noses to keep the shine down? Going to the powder room, and all that. I guess that previous statement sort of dates me <sigh>

Maybe ask a dermatologist if there's a preferred powder that they could recommend for a situation like yours. If you use powder daily I think it should be hypoallergenic based.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Proper cpap therapy will affect your whole body because sleep deprivation affects everything including your hormonal balance. So it can affect your skin in many ways - all of my skin became less dry (until I moved to what is basically a desert)

Try a mask liner. Using astringents will sometimes trigger more oil production. See a dermatologist about your skin issues.

Blackspinner's advice is the one I would take.
Especially the mask liners. They are nice, mmmm, so nice.

See your other identical recent thread... I left a reply there, as did a few others.
