ResMed AirCurve 10 VAUTO SmartStart

Post by icyura10 » Sat Jul 23, 2016 9:50 am

Hi All,

I've had Sleep Apnea seemingly for a lifetime. I've had several machines off and on over the past 30 years. Now, I have this ResMed AirCurve 10 VAUTO machine and it's got a function called SmartStart.

I understand the function of what SmartStart is supposed to do. Basically, if you put your mask on and start breathing, the device wakes up and participates. If you take the mask off, it's supposed to turn the machine off. Additionally, if I have a power failure (and I do and I continue sleeping with the mask and I do that too) when the power comes back on, SmartStart should automagically kick in and start helping me sleep.

When I go to the "My Options" screen, I scroll down to the "SmartStart" setting and the bloody thing is "greyed out" and marked as being "OFF".

No matter what I've tried to do so this option becomes available I've failed.

Can some kind soul point me in the right direction to get this setup and working? (Of course, the DME's not forthcoming with any help on this topic.)

Thanks in Advance

Do you have a setting for leak alert/alarm and if you do what is it set at?
Somewhere in the back of my mind I remember Smart Start being unavailable when a setting of some sort is turned on and I think it may have been related to leak alarm.
Whatever yours is set at...turn it the other way and see if Smart Start becomes available.
I assume you know how to get to the clinical setup menu area where all this stuff is turn off and on.

Smart start needs to be enabled in the clinical menu, then you'll have access to it in the my options screen.

yup, turning on leak alarm disables smart start.

Thank you!

Isn't that just brilliant? Anyone have any ideas why those two settings might be mutually exclusive?

Again, Thank You.

Is there a book for the clinical setup for this machine that I can get my grubby mitts on that might elucidate all these options so I too can be a knowledgeable abuser of my hardware?

take your pick, you can either have the machine alarm if you take your mask off, or shut off... though i *guess* they could make it alarm AND shut off...

for the manual, go to apneaboard.com, hit the link at the top about setting your own pressure, there's instructions on how to request the manual by email.

To enable Smartstart access you must first turn OFF "lEAK'. If LEAK is on, Smartstart will be disabled and is unselectable.

I have the Vauto, the leak alarm is almost inaudible. I like the smart stop, just pop on the mask, get it adjusted and breathe, very easy.

yeah, it's more of a quiet, polite reminder than an 'alarm'.

:cough: :whisper: "excuse me, but I couldn't help but notice that your mask is off... I hope I'm not disturbing you".
