My Machine & first night.

Post by Winlocktim » Sun Jul 10, 2016 5:21 pm

Finally after being told by a sleep specialist that I didn't require sleep therapy, I found a New Resmed Auto S10 ($375.00). Last night was my first night with it. I think that it went well. I got about 3 hours with it on.. I took it off, for about 4 hours and put it back on for 3 more hours. I had a AHI of 11.58. I did the settings 12/6. I now lowered it to 11/5. I remember waking up thinking it was to much pressure and I pulled it off. I woke up with no head ache... and I felt more rested. I'm not sure I like the mask much its a Quattro FX Mask. It feels like it slipps off my chin and moves up towards my face. Any suggestions on better masks?

All in all I think it was well worth the 5 hour drive and the money for the machine. I can see it will be a help to me in my waking hours.

What are you doing?

You were told you didn't need a machine so went out and bought one?

Then set it (from what you've said) to what look like bipap numbers rather than Apap. Why?

And what have you based your numbers on?

Oh, machines don't report validly below 4 hrs... I don't know if your 3+3 will give you any useful numbers.

they'll report accurately for however many hours they're used... they don't care, events divided by time...

the four hour thing is just the medical establishments line in the sand for 'good enough for us to get paid' usagewise.

Hi, In a earlier post I explained that I did need one. The sleep study I did I never fell asleep. I was dosing in and out. From that they concluded I did not need a cpap. Oh they were willing to retest me of another $5,000.

I know I need one for the I was exhibiting the classic symptoms of sleep apnea. In addition to that my wife who is also on a cpap has told me that I'm stopping breathing from time to time.

I set the machine to number that were in the mid range. I am trying to help myself with this machine, time will tell. I would suspect that is better than some do that just blow it off and find themselves much worse off or dead over time.

Thanks for all your support Julie.

Perhaps if you'd posted today in the other thread it would have made sense... I had no reason to remember that one, so thought you were not making sense. Expressing your settings with the high # first, over a lower #, is usually reserved for bilevel or ASV settings... again did not make sense in light of nothing else in today's note. Apart from your having said specifically that you were told you didn't need therapy. What was I supposed to have thought - read today's note as if you'd never heard of ... yourself, and see how coherent it comes across to a stranger.

several things, if you mean a resmed Air10 autoset, then you should refer to it that way, to avoid confusion, there are other auto models in the air10 line. the numbers you wrote are bilevel pressure settings, 12 over 6, 11 over 5, not auto cpap (autoset) pressure settings, (min 6, max 12). again, to avoid confusion and possibly getting bad advice from people that don't take the time to figure out what's going on, it's best to use the common terms.

if you DO have an autoset, then the machine will pick the pressures it needs to, within the limits set, you should set the minimum pressure to where it prevents most of the events and pressure only raises for exceptions. posting a screenshot of a nights data here will help you. https://sleep.tnet.com/resources/sleepyhead/shorganize

make sure that you have the right size mask for your face, there are fitting templates available for download off the net, just google your mask name and 'fitting template' or 'template' or 'sizing guide' etc. finding the right mask for you is often the most challenging aspect of making cpap work as well as possible.
