Hello all, I was recently diagnosed with Mild OSA. I had a home sleep test done only, I had 5-7 ahi and 15-22 rdi depending on sleep position, rem etc...
I decided to try cpap and here are my results from first night....
95th Percentile Pressure 8.0
90th Percentile Pressure 7.5
Pressure Plateau Time 0%
% Days at least 4 hours (not
continuous) in a 24 hour period 100%
Day Count 1
Days at least 4 hours 1
Apnea/Hypopnea Index 4.5
Non-Obstructive Index 5.25
Exhale Puff Index 1
% High Leak Flow > 95 L/m 2%
While Breathing Hours Last Day 4.2
This was with 7.5 low pressure and 9.5 high pressure. My concern is the Non obstructive (centrals) I'm getting.
My understanding is this will get worse the higher the pressure.
Is there any way to avoid this? Should I be concerned?
Btw smartflex was at 3.
Thank you!
Sean

Hi, very many of us get up to a handful of 'centrals' (actually not centrals, but periodic breathing) when falling asleep and just before waking up. Unless you have very many all through the night they're nothing to worry about at all.
Also remember that the 95% fig. represents an 'up to' number, not one where 95% of the time you were at that figure.
I do wonder why your high setting is so low at 9.5... unless there's a reason you haven't mentioned, it could easily be set higher, e.g. 10, 15 or even 20. It's the low setting that matters.
And the EPR (flex) setting of 3 can actually push up your AHI a bit... again, unless there's a reason for it (you really have trouble exhaling), you might want to try it at a lower level.
PS - no need to include the code # here.

Re: Noob needs advice!
Thanks for the quick reply.
No real reason for the 9.5 high pressure, just figured I would start out low and work up.
I was planning on setting the low pressure to 8 - 8.5 and going to 10.5 with high pressure.
I was worried about making the "centrals" worse is all.
Also, i will lower the flex setting.

Come to think of it, is there a reason you want to raise the low pressure too? I'd wait and see if lowering the flex setting helps your AHI and be sure also that you're not getting any meaningful leaks.

Just an attempt to lower the ahi a bit more...
Re: Noob needs advice!
Don't do it randomly... the lowest pressure that does the job is always the best... and don't chase 'zero', it's rare and not necessary. How you feel matters a lot more, so experiment, but give each cm level a few days to be sure how it works.

OK I will give the original settings some more time and just lower the flex setting. Thanks.
