The DME told me the Airsense does not have that button so you have to go into settings to restart ramp. I used ramp for a few days but I don't anymore.
You can adjust the ramp time, I think up to 60 minutes. Mine is set at 45 but I don't use it much anymore either.

Sorry I meant, level 1-3 for exhale pressure, I had it set at level 2.
Well last night tried the two machines side by side with the news settings, the Phillips I tried first, easier breathing pattern , but it was still noisy for me even my wife said she could hear it, tried for at least an hour. I wear earplugs so I hear the whir of the motor more higher pitched than the Resmed Airsense 10. Next the resmed airsense 10, it was a bit better with noise than the dreamstation, and breathing was nearly as good. I ended going to sleep after about 30 mins got 6 hours and 5.6 episode per hour. Is that a good result?
So I think the airsense may be the choice. Interesting all the philips literature says the dreanstation is 63% quieter than the resmed airsense 10. In my experience I found the Airsense 10 a bit quieter than the 2 dreamstation I have tried. Has anyone had a similar experience?
I had a bit of a headache this morning is that normal after affects of a CPAP machine?.
Has anyone heard if they are upgrading the airsense a10 to 3G from 2G ?
Should I take the plunge or try a few more nights or try a different brand?
Thanks for everyone's help, much appreciated for putting up with all the questions.
Cheers
Steve

(You still haven't registered a username here so, among other things, you can't be sent private messages.)

I get the impression that you believe that the "best" machine for you will just "work" perfectly. For most people, there is an adjustment period when you first start using cpap. You get used to it and your body adjusts to its use. For some people this takes days, some weeks, some months. And some unlucky ones are still waiting even longer than that.

Most people consider the machines you've tried to be virtually silent so I don't know if you have some kind of bat-like hearing or what.

I am surprised that you have such an accommodating DME as that has not been the experience of most of us.

Many things about how the cpap works can be changed by making the appropriate adjustments. But there are some differences in their approaches to preventing apneas. I have one of each of the two major brands and, to me, there is no significant difference in their effectiveness.

Hey, you haven't tried the "for her" airsense model yet! That one has an additional treatment algorithm built in that seems to work better for some people.

Sorry I am knew to this CPAP thing, so my expectation were perhaps to high and didn't know what I was in for. In Australia its quite expensive about $1500 for a good mask and fixed CPAP machine so wanted to make the right decision and I was rushing to make a decision before the end of June (Financial year) but I will try both machines a little longer.
Your right no perfect machine so will keep trying to see which gives me the best sleep outcome. Thanks for your advice so far.

Hi all,
I saw a clinician got another dream station yesterday help set the auto ramp for 45mins starting at 6.5cm and 1 ER on the dreamstation which helped me sleep more quickly. Best sleep so far with a CPAP machine. Was asleep within 30 minutes, got 6 hours solid and 6 episodes per hour. I mainly slept on my back and without machine its about 50. Noise (whine) seems to appear initially when you put it straight to full set pressure of 9 when machine under pressure so when on autoramp it disappeared. The chest pain subsided a bit, ringing less in ear as no ear plugs last night less headaches. I found out that some chest discomfort is normal as stretching the muscles, ringing could be due to earplugs pressurising my ear which then can cause headaches. Feel more alert today.

In regard to comparing the airsense and dreamstation over the last week and a half.
Similar noise at ramp setting, but at full pressure the airsense is a little bit quieter because of the slight whine at times with the dreamstation, I find the dreamstation slightly gentler, smoother and easier to breath at both ramp and full fixed setting. I found the airsense harder to get to sleep due to the harder I have to push to breath and exhale even at various exhale settings.

Sometimes with the dreamstation I forget I am breathing whereas the Airsense I am more aware so not as relaxed or comfortable but early days, not rushing to make decision now but leaning slightly towards dreamstation because of the comfort in breathing just wished the whine wasn’t there at all.
Which is more important comfort in breathing or slight noise? which do you tend to adapt more too?
Cheers
Steve.

Hi,
What do you mean by sign up for an account, thanks.
What do you mean by blathering posts - I was just giving an update on my experience as a beginner CPAP user ?

are you really as clueless as you come across?

you see up near the top of the page, in the lighter blue band, where it says "register username" and then "login" ?

does that give you any kind of hint?

as to blathering posts, you cut and paste the same drivel everywhere, because you just like to see your words on the screen, I guess... I particularly liked (and that's sarcasm, btw) when you pasted the same "hi all, my first post" post, TWICE on one forum. and then just KEPT double posting, like you think you're twice as entertaining as most. *you're not).

so far, all you've posted is your recipe on how to be a wafflemaster with your inability to select a machine.

Steve,
You look like you're signed in to me but just for good measure click the logout button on the top right then sign in again. Once you do that, go to the user control panel and enter information about the machine you are currently using. It would be best to only post in one place so all replies are together.

My Dreamstation doesn't whine when I turn it on. I wonder if a gasket is leaking somewhere. Maybe you should call your DME.

No he isn't.......and doesn't have a user account. He can't log out because he's not logged in.
And, if you don't have a user account and logged in, you can't see the "buttons" to log out.

I assumed he is because his name appears on the left side instead of "guest".... Well Steve, go register a user name on the top right. It's very easy to do.

By the way, I don't think you are helping yourself by changing machines constantly. Whichever machine you use, you will have to spend some time getting used to using it.
