It's really none of your damn business how eager someone is to get started with CPAP. This forum is for support of CPAP patients, especially newbies. It's not for disparaging them.

It's my business as much as anyone else's here, as a member, to express an opinion, and there's nothing disparaging about expressing that it's unreasonable to expect instant answers after a long time of being untreated whatever the reason. She has two posts going about her impatience and it's irritating considering the problems so many others have had and still managed to wait for answers for a lot longer than 10 days. You all are just spoiled brats!

Susie Kay has been on my 'nothing worth reading here' list for some time, might I suggest the addition to yours?

Lizamd wrote:Thank you. My initial question was posed as an effort to begin doing my research/homework. I have already discussed with my insurance company what is covered, which in my case is much more expensive in the long run than purchasing a machine outright. Given that, I need to learn more about the equipment. This is all very new to me... After last night's experience I sensed that the machines need to be titrated or calibrated to the individual's needs. If that's not actually the case then it would be nice to know my options, and get a sense of what normal and reasonable costs might be. Yes, I can wait another couple of weeks if necessary, but why should I otherwise? I'm ready to feel good and prevent any further deterioration of my health as quickly as possible. I appreciate the guidance offered.
Hi Lizamd,

Welcome to the forum You've come to the right place to learn everything there is to know about cpap! I felt just as you feel as soon as I was diagnosed, and wanted a machine right away. I purchased my machine out of pocket, and it was the best move I made, I think. I purchased my machine (listed below in my profile) from a member here- brand new- for $400.00. This is an excellent machine; it is an auto adjust machine, meaning it adjusts itself to the amount of air I need for breathing comfortably at all times. I have not had one problem with it in the two years I have had it ever. These machines are normally $800+ as you found in your search. So you can get GREAT deals here and elsewhere.

Benefits of buying your own machine are: * you never have to 'prove' your compliant with treatment with your insurance company; *you can buy your supplies anywhere (if you want to pay out of pocket); *you get what you want and aren't stuck with what they give you; * if you want your insurance to cover your filters for machine, they will come from assigned DME; * your insurance can still cover your other cpap supplies if you want, but they will have to come from your assigned DME.

The PR System One that is on sale now at https://www.cpap.com is $314. for just the basic part of the machine itself. If you want the heated humidifier with it, it's only $10.00 at time of purchase with the machine. (you will definitely want the option of a humidifier. This gives you the option of adding moisture to the air that you are breathing, at different levels, starting at zero.) There is an additional option of adding a heated hose on this machine. If you want a heated hose, it's an additional $20. at time of purchase of machine. Total price for this set up is $344.00 out the door, with free shipping. This is a STEAL at this price!! This is the same machine I have basically, except the newest version; this one has Bluetooth and a lot more features mine doesn't have, plus it's $50.00 cheaper than what I paid for mine two years ago

An FYI: No matter which machine you decide on- we can give you the link to all the owner's manuals so you can set the titration yourself.
