air seems hot

Post by stockman » Tue Jun 14, 2016 11:47 am

Hello I am new to the world of CPAP . I have been on the machine for 7 weeks. I have a Resmed 10. My setting is 3 for the humidity and 74 temp for the hose. Full face mask as I breath many times through my mouth. The problem I have is it seems too hot when I turn on the machine for about 5 minutes. I did shut off the ramp off. Those 5 to about 8 minutes kill me and make me sweat until the air pressure goes up. The pressures starts at 4 then goes to 9 to 12 on an average. Any idea would help . Thanks to all. :

What exactly are your pressure settings and exactly which model machine are you using (there are 4 different AirSense 10 models)?
If you are using the AutoSet machine and the minimum pressure is 4 starting point...ramp wasn't doing anything anyway because it can't go lower than 4 anyway...shutting off the ramp in that case didn't really change anything in terms of air movement.

If you don't know how to find out exactly what your various settings are this manual will explain how if it an AirSense machine.

You can set the hose air temperature lower than 74 degrees but if the problem is air movement itself that may not offer much relief.
Usually that problem is resolved only by increasing the starting pressure.
Ambient bedroom air temp may also be a factor....what temperature is your bedroom?

I assume you mean the minimum is 4 and the maximum is 15.
Ramp is useless with the minimum of 4.
You might want to consider trying something like a minimum of 6 to get a little more air moving so it doesn't seem so stifling. You can also reduce the hose air temp ...I think it will go down to 64 or 66 though it can't work like air conditioning since it also depends on room air temp but it will be cooler than 74 for sure.

So you may need to do one or both...to relieve your unwanted results.

Air is hot! Room temp plus machine temp plus compressing a gas (air) makes it warmer, add in the humidity from your body and the Machines humidifier, you have the feeling of warmer.

That's why I run a room a/c in the bedroom year around, no HH at all, keeping room at 62 or colder year around. Jim
