Clusters of apnea events with otherwise normal breathing

Did another sleep recording last night, and added respiratory effort from a belt around diaphragm. This is also the first recording I was able to make that included both O2 saturation and airway O2/CO2. The desaturations correspond pretty well to the drop in exhaled O2, although they lag by a few seconds which might make sense.



Saw the same pattern as the other night, and during the apneas it looks like there is not much breathing effort (could this imply CA? or just lack of diaphragm movement against an obstructed airway?)

Thanks again to all for their help in understanding these phenomena - I hope to get test results and proceed with therapy next week.

well, all you need is an eeg trace and you've got your own home sleep test

I'd say it's pretty clear you've got episodes of central apnea, based on the belt readout.

It would be interesting and we do have some mobile EEG units at work, but I'm not sure I could put the electrodes on myself at home... also I would be really out of my league when it comes to interpreting these.

I thought this might be the case - I'm a bit worried because it sounds like central apnea might be harder to treat than obstructive?

No, but you need a different machine, an ASV, not an A/Cpap. Do a forum 'search' and you'll get lots of info.
