Medstrom Pilot-12 backup power supply

Post by Hawthorne » Sun May 08, 2016 7:17 pm

Does anyone here have an experience with the Medstrom Pilot-12 backup power supply? I have read about in but wondered if any one here has experience with one.
It says it is for Respironics and Intellipap machines but there appears to be a Pilot 24 for Resmed machines. It can be left plugged into the machine and come on whenever there is a power outage and go back to regular power when power resumes. It can also be for camping or any place where you do not have power.
Thanks.

I just ordered the 24 volt version yesterday. I will let you know what I think of it in a few days.

I understand that the 24 is for Resmed machines and the 12 is for Respironics.
Thanks! I will watch for your opinion.
I would also like to hear from any using the 12 with a Respironics machine.

I have had a Pilot 12 for about a month now... so far, so good. It can be left plugged in all the time, and the cpap plugged into it. According to the manufacturer (I emailed them and got a response the next day), the unit will charge until full, then stop charging. There is no need to unplug the charger. The unit will pass 12v DC to the cpap directly unless the battery needs to be charged. I have not yet had to run the cpap from the battery (in my case, I am using it solely as a UPS for the cpap, not as a travel unit away from wall current), but I will likely do an experiment to see how that goes.

One thing... the lights on the unit are bright, but you can always cover them.

Good luck!

Hey, thanks Bookbear! I really appreciate this information! I expect I would use it as an UPS as well. We don't have a lot of power outages here but there have been a few in the years I have been on cpap. Several times, these outage happen during the night.
Thanks again! This is a big help!
