I am not really sure actually about this, however I guess you will get taxed for them anyways. I mean, you are looking to import these things, surely you have to get taxed.
of all the posts in this forum, may i ask why you chose to reply to this one?

i'm being serious, not sarcastic. i think it interesting when people dig up old posts to answer.

was it google that brought you here?

also, did you read all of the other replies before answering?

again, i would really like to know.
people say i'm self absorbed.
but that's enough about them.

Is the VAT as excessive as it was when this thread was new?
Is it still applied inappropriately?

Hi chunkyfrog,

Value Added Tax in the UK at this very moment is still high. But VAT does not apply to medically necessary equipment for individual use. It never has.

But VAT does apply to a service – such as shipping.

However, in two weeks time, the UK comes to the end of what's called 'the transition period' and the country leaves the European Union. And who knows what will happen then. :( A government employee – in the UK called 'a civil servant' – has written a piece in the newspapers which says, amongst other things, that 'we' – meaning the current administration – are woefully not ready.

So wrt to importing stuff, a person might get lucky. But it's much more likely that there will be delays.

Hi zonker,

Wrt the post from Denvid, I agree with you – I can't see why it matters to him or her.

I believe the correct Comodity Code for importing a CPAP device from outside the UK is 9019202000. If this is true, then there should be NO VAT added to an Import and 0% Import Duty. Does anyone know any different?

Hi mcalleran,

You've tagged on to two old threads. I'll give you the same answer to both of them.

Everything I said back in 2016 about Import Duty and Value Added Tax (which are two separate things) was still true ten days ago. But on 31 December, 2020, Britain left the EU.

And if you now log on to the UK government website to ask about these, you will find it says 'This is now out of date'.

And I don't know when HMRC will put up revised information. Until they do, I suggest you call them. The number is: 0300 322 9434
