Thanks DiGriz!! Your fix was spot on. Saved me heaps and fixed easily. My problem was simply water leaked into the heater under the water tank. I am pretty sure I simply overfilled my tank. I just had to open up the base & dry it out.
Note however there are electronic components on the heater plate, and I noticed the connector (the white plastic thing joining the wires to the plate) was starting to corrode, & would likely have failed if left much longer.
This is the first problem Ive had in 6 years!! The only thing Ive ever done is replaced the air filter every year or so (I get them on Ebay!!)

Thanks to those who provided great instructions!! I followed those above, used a kleenex to dry everything, and it works again!! I bought a new water cup and mat for underneath the unit in case this happens again. Now I can use some tips for refinishing a water-stained night stand!
