New member. I feel like Goldilocks with a CPAP

Post by DaisySmith » Sat Apr 16, 2016 9:37 am

Greeting.

I have been using CPAP for about 2 months now. I'm on my 3rd mask and currently using a Wisp. The small mask is too small, the large mask is too large. Everything is just "off". The first mask was one of those one's with the clear plastic thingies between your eyes which I didnt like because I couldnt put my glasses on. (Mirage maybe?) The second was an AitFit10 which just made me feel like I couldnt breathe, probably the cup was too small. I just ordered the Phillips Dreamwear which I am praying will work for me.

Ive tried Pad a Cheek nasal liners, Ive made my own with tshirts, flannel etc. I just cant find the right fit or comfort level. I feel like I'm constantly adjusting all night.

Has anyone had success with the Dreamwear?? I know...stick with it, don't give up...be patient. Ugh! This last mask is on me since it'll be another month till my insurance will cover a new one and I need something now!

Additional Comments: Pressure = 4
What are your pressures - minimum pressure, maximum pressure, ramp pressure and ramp time?

4 is the lowest pressure and could cause this feeling -->

Which Airfit mask did you try? F10 (full face). N10 (nasal cushion). P10 (nasal pillows).
You have the right attitude. Just keep trying; and give each new iteration at least 3-4 nights.
One night may not be enough; especially when just getting used to therapy.
Welcome to the forum. You have spunk--I like that.
When I was trying new masks on my own dime, I used cpap.com's return insurance.
Sometimes it's free, or pretty cheap. When it's high, consider it an indication of how often the mask does not work.
Thirty days is generous, unless you are not in the lower 48. Canada--sorry, not so much.

Nope I hadnt thought of that... So yes the 3 sizes it comes with are small/medium, large , and XL. The "small/medium" is too small.

I apparently am at a 4 and stay at a 4. It doesnt adjust and there is no ramp time. i honestly think the nasal cup just sits too close to my nose where I breath. If I pull the cup thing out a little, just a hair I can breathe fine. Loosening the straps only makes for air leaks, hence why i feel like Goldilocks (too hard, too soft, too tight, too loose)!

Now that you have changed your equipment profile and know that your machine is a brick, your most important priority is to trade the machine for a data-capable auto machine so that you can monitor what is going on and control your therapy. It's a shame that they sold you this machine. Sorry.

Yes they stuck you with a cheap BRICK so they can pocket more of your insurance money....read this: Take it back and have a fit...I did after 3 months and got an autoset.

I had a very difficult time with all the other masks, but I can wear the dreamwear mask! I still am not getting any rest at all, but I can wear the mask

Unfortunately Dreamwear looks like a no go for me. I have the autoset 10, and the report shows I'm up at around 13 events per hour, vs around 5 or under using my Mirage FX mask. It's super lightweight and I like how the tube goes overhead, but my sleep is more important than the sleekness of this mask. I also have pretty severe apnea, so that's probably why I need something a little more "solid".

I also have a resmed dental device I should be getting within a few more weeks. I'm looking forward to seeing what that adds!
