Setting for DreamWear and ResMed S9
Setting for DreamWear and ResMed S9
I just realized the setting on my S9 machine is set ti NASAL.
There's another setting called NASAL ULTRA.
To which of two setting should the Dreamwear be set?

Re: Setting for DreamWear and ResMed S9
I have the Dreamwear and the S9. I was under the impression that the Dreamwear was a nasal mask and have used that setting. As nasal pillows connect differently (much tighter seal than the Dreamwear) then maybe that should be avoided.
Re: Setting for DreamWear and ResMed S9
the *correct* way to figure out what 'type' of mask it is, for mask settings, is to look at the mask resistance values in the manual, and compare that against the resistance values in the manuals of a couple of nasal, and then pillow masks.Holden4th wrote:I have the Dreamwear and the S9. because the interface between the mask and your nose is small, it's likely to be a pillow mask, properly, not a nasal mask, which have lower resistance values, owing to a larger opening to your nose.

I'll be double checking with my CME tomorrow, too, but I think tonight I'll sleep okay.
Again, thanks!

Re: Setting for DreamWear and ResMed S9
My sleep doc considers the standard Dreamwear a nasal mask. If you have the Dreamwear with gel pillows, he says to use the pillows mask resistance setting.
When I contacted ResMed with this question, they also consider the standard Dreamwear a "nasal" mask, which is why ResMed has that mask in the "Nasal" category on their MyAir web software for the Airsense 10 machines equipped with a celluar modem. Furthermore, Philips themselves give the standard Dreamwear an "X1" resistance setting, which is the same as their nasal masks, and their "large" sized pillow masks.
It's not a huge deal either way. Mostly impacts how the machine calculates / reports leaks, not how well you sleep with the mask. In my experience, I can hardly tell the difference with the S9 machine, but with the Airsense 10 CPAP, I am more comfortable using the "nasal" setting that has been recommended to me.
